How often do they have the one with SPG? Or is that an SPG promo rather than an AAdvatange?

AA had an SPG promo last year (around July I think), if you transferred 20,000 SPG points, you got the usual additional 5,000 plus an additional 5,000 bonus AA miles for a total of 30,000.

I'm comparing 2 programmes which I have enough points to convert:
To get the 25% need to convert minimum 140,000 Hilton points which gives 26,250 AA miles. At the current promo 27,000 AA miles can be bought at $590US. 140,000 Hilton points are almost enough for 2 nights in a fancy resort or 3 nights in a city Hilton.
To get the 25% need to convert minimum 200,000 Club Carlson points which gives 25,000 AA miles. With 200,000 points can stay 4 nights in a Radisson city hotel, valued roughly at $250 per night.
This promo is not such a good value IMO.

This is an ongoing promotion. I use it regularly - every time I get to 40K Amex MR point in my account. In fact, I earned my 5000 bonus miles last week with a laundering of Amex MR points to AA miles.

Nice analysis; thanks :) .

I would tend to agree.

I have ~500,000 IHG points which would convert to 125,000 AA miles. I am not sure what it would cost to buy those miles but I can redeem them for almost 2 business class returns SYD-BKK.

Or those ~500,000 IHG points would get me 50 nights in Holiday Chiang Mai at ~AUD100/night.

I believe the OP is talking about the extra 5k point so 20k SPG become 30K AA. That's the one I'm waiting for :D

The was a 50% bonus on SPG transfers a couple of years ago so 20k SPG became 37.5K AA/US

Correct - 30k AA for 20k SPG last July came in very handy for an 80k SYD-LHR redemption in First :)

I normally use my ClubCarlson points to lower the cost by using points plus pay at their hotels, price drop if added over a few nights would purchase far more AA miles with the AA bonuses than any CCarlson conversion to AA miles, especially since 50k CC points went from 8k to 5k AA miles. Racking up quite a few 30k CCarlson bonuses with three nights stay, especially when you consider the 4/4/2 deals they are offering in Europe also qualify for the 30K CCarlson bonus for the next few weeks.
