28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

I'm in Toronto at the moment and have been using the TD Canada Trust ATMs with no fee at all. They're bright green and all over the place as well. I gave CIBC a try too but it wanted $1.50.

On to Boston today, I'll report back how I go there.

I have had a friend who I reccomended the 28 degrees card too. She called them up and asked them about putting it in credit and withdrawing from ATMs and that no cash advance fee will be charged. The guy on the phone said that she was not allowed to do this and that it could only be used as a credit card.
Phoning them and asking this is just dumb !! They have to say that if you ask them, but every credit card I have ever had has been in credit at some stage. I have put my 28 Degree Card into credit 4 times this year to withdraw cash overseas. The last time was this month. Have been doing this since 2007 and have never had a problem.

There have been some posts by people who have tried to go too much into credit and have made themselves more noticeable, but otherwise I think there have been very few issues. Use internet banking / BPAY to add funds to the card 2-3 days before you'll need them (as they take a few days to show) and transfer just the amounts that you need. If you are going to also use the card for purchases, make sure you withdraw your cash while its in credit, and put it back into credit before your next withdrawal.

I have only had mine for six months and it is much better than the ANZ card I was using before.

I keep my card in credit ($100 or so) and then on the day or day before I use it I transfer money in.

The exchange rates are good and apart from the fee charged by the ATM I haven't had any fees yet.

I have had one of these cards for over 6 months and loving it. I have even been able to claim the Shoppers Price Protection and within 5 days was refunded $600 back into my account.

I decided to sign up one for Hubby, for travel to Europe next year; one to load with cash, the other for outright expenses. In the application process I notice that the very first question asked was to confirm that the card was to be used as a Credit card, and not loaded up with cash to be a debit card. That question was not on the application I did 6 months ago.

The primary card holder (you) is the one who has to agree with the terms. This card was another separate account for him, not a secondary card on mine:p.

I've had my 28 degrees card for a while now - last year I sent it into credit by about $2000 for time in th eUK and steadily withdrew funds and paid for accommodation etc - not a word from GE - I find it VERY beneficial.

I also use it to make online purchases from O/S - that way, no commission and no conversion fees, and accepted by PayPal etc (charged in original currency of country of purchase, of course).

Just a reconfirmation on how good the 28 degrees Mastercard is. On 19th Sept, I paid USD$600 for an overseas conference with my AMEX (as I get the amount reimbursed by work, so might as well get the pts;)), and got charged AUD$604.45, of which $17.61 was the AMEX Fx commission!! ie 3% which is free with the 28 degrees Mastercard!!!

Anyone used this card in Australia with a travelex ATM or other multi currency ATM?

Do these ATMs charge in AUD or the foreign currency?

Hi all,

Can I load up a $5000 limit with $5000?
Can someone please tell me how much CASH on a $5000 limit card I can withdraw in Hong Kong from an
ATM PER DAY?
Which ATM to use?
What Fee will I be charged?

I need $5K out in shortest possible time!

Regards

Loading up $5000 credit might attract their attention. I have got away with $4000 for short periods, but I think some posters in this string ran into trouble with smaller amounts. $2000 for short periods seems fairly safe.

I'm pretty sure there is still an AUD 1000 per day withdrawal limit.

So 4 day to get $4k?
Would you load $2000 on one day..take 2 days to withdraw and then another $2000 on and withdraw over 2 day?

Sounds like a plan. However, on some occasions it takes more than 2 days for a deposit to post to the account.

1k a day limit. I'd load 2k today, and start withdrawing today too. Then add another 2k tomorrow too, as it won't show in the account for 2 days probably. You might need to pay a tiny bit of interest but if you want as quick as possible then that is the way. Not been locked out of my card yet, and has been ~3k credit for 2 years and up to 4k at times. The fees will be minimal, I'd estimate 2-4$ total, if any.
