I thought generally so long as the auto-checks worked (eg. address listed in phone book, drivers license match) then there may not be any additional info needed.
Anyhow good luck in getting the card in time.
 
The information they require is likely identification related information. By law, providers of banking and financial services must confirm a person's identification to mitigate fradulent and laundering activity. If one does not provide it, they are compelled to suspend the account.

Also in my instance, I told them to I would be travelling regularly and spending globally so my card has remained unlocked for a very long time now and thus I never need to worry when I visit a new place on this wide world of ours ;)

Ditto, although with the declining AUD I don't tend to dip into my funds anymore and simply use the GBP that I'm earning here instead, doing it the old fashioned "change cash" way :shock:
 
I had no checks either when I received the card. You have to call them to validate the card, which I think is more about selling you their Insurance plan. Which, if you are purchasing computers with it, I can highly recommend - I got back the maximum on a Harvey Norman purchase.

Alanslegal - you're correct that they need to ID new customers, however many companies now do this electronically so it is only if you fail this step that they require you to post in information.

If they have not asked for anything to be posted in, then Shanye2233 is fine to travel now that 28 Degrees have been advised of travel dates and locations etc.
 
Has anyone tried the Citibank plus card? Currently have the 28degree, but looking to cancel and grab a Citibank Platinum (and the plus) for upcoming overseas trip.

Why cancel? If it has a zero balance it costs nothing to retain as a backup.:idea:

I would keep it to use as it is designed, as a credit card overseas, and use Citibank plus for overseas cash (this is what I do).

It means you can use the 28deg card for purchases and hotels, without having to worry about pre authorizations eating in to your 'cash'.
 
I went into a money exchange and got $2030 for 1535euro cash hope it was a good deal. There was a lady there telling me it's very good.

My hubby had a dreadful time trying to use credit cards in India recently yet our sons basic debit card was fine And yes we had advised them we were travelling. He did have the 28 card as well and from memory I think that might have been fine but now he just wants to take cash!!! We have a few credit cards and I'm the one who manages them all and I try to keep it simple for him but his last trip was a major fail. How many credit cards do people take just in case of problems?
 
I take the 28 degrees, and one other card as back up. My regular westpac ATM card sits in my bag since I use it in AU before and after departure. It has maybe $50 on it for dire emergencies.

Credit cards in India (in general) work just fine. So not sure why your hubby was having problem. Do you have any specifics?

Did he call 28 Degrees before leaving Australia? If you don't inform them where you're going (even down to the city level I find) the likelihood of the card being blocked whilst you're overseas is very high.
I am quite impressed with the fine granularity of their monitoring systems. I had told them I was in France before travelling there last year. Unfortunately my card was compromised, and used in the US. They called me to check if I had ordered anything online in the US and cancelled my card there and then. Luckily, my wife had a card on my account (with different numbers) so we could use hers for the rest of the trip.

Only place I've had issues was Portugal, but it seemed to be the same for anyone that had a Mastercard. Visa seems to work OK for cash advances, but not MC.
 
I dont have any specifics as I wasnt there but the Hotel wouldnt take his card because it had the chip in it and they refused to swipe it. He tried to book a flight online and the transaction was refused. I called from Oz and they said it was fine. Yes, we did tell all Banks that he was travelling to India. My son did not tell his Bank that he was. His card was fine, hubbys card wasnt.

I actually lodged a complaint with 28 security because of the way they conduct it. It is random and inconsistent. I made transactions around 10pm one night with several different online merchants, all of whom i had used before in the USA so payments made in USD. I received a text at 4AM:evil: asking if I could approve a transaction for say, $11.55 AUD. No mention of who the merchant was! So I texted back, "I need more detail" instead of 1 or 2. I got back a text saying 'unknown response please call 1800 etc' So I did and guess what, they werent open until 8am! Well thanks for fricken waking me at 4am and then not being able to speak to anyone as they were all still asleep!:evil::evil::evil:

So I rang next morning and they still didnt know who the merchant was. What exactly is the point of that! Let alone the currency conversion meaning that i couldnt work it out on the basis of my receipts. It turned out to be Amazon whom I have used countless times for much larger amounts. But they picked on a tiny transaction to query.

The MC works as a normal credit card, just not for cash advances. Given they're both Euro just get some out somewhere else. FWIW I don't remember having any issues in Spain.

I used my 28 Degrees card in Portugal recently at both an ATM and restaurant without any problems. Was only there for a couple of days though, so only used the card twice.

Interesting. Was 11 months ago for me, tried in various locations at the airport, Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos, etc. I noticed other people at the airport having issues withdrawing using MC at ATM's too.

I went to Portugal (Algarve) in September 2010 and don't remember having any issues, pretty sure I used my Wizard then, but can't be 100% on that....:!:
