"##Only Australian Dollars may be deposited to or withdrawn from these Accounts" I'm assuming I should have applied for a different account?

Yes, online savings account is in AUD only. They have accounts in foreign currencies, but no card access.

Also they say free transactions "HSBC and non HSBC ATM and EFTPOS (within Australia)" I thought if I was using a HSBC branch overseas it would not incur a charge, maybe not :evil:

If you use HSBC ATM overseas, you pay AUD$4.50 withdrawal fee, flat. No forex commission (both MasterCard Cirrus and HSBC) at all.

I think you are close to asking for free lunch.

Since you are getting paid in EUR, can't you open an account un Europe?

Yer I misunderstood the Australian dollar withdrawal part  Appologies. I am happy with the card now, it was just that main sticking point I was worried about. Thank you for the help ! Yes I am trying my best to limit the costs! Its a bit weird watching my income fluctuate so much, so I can't really complain about small charges. Again, thank you for your help :p

Yer I misunderstood the Australian dollar withdrawal part

From the financial services charges booklet, in section for online savings account:

Transaction fees: overseas - per transaction
* Internet banking $20
* ATM card
- ATM $4.50
- EFTPOS $1
*Visa debit card
- ATM, EFTPOS and online purchases from other countries $4.50
Note: an additional overseas transaction charge will be incurred:
* Overseas transaction charge
- VISA debit card 1% of the total amount of each overseas transaction
- HSBC ATM card at a non HSBC ATM 1.1% of the total amount of each overseas transaction
- EFTPOS 1.1% of the total amount of each overseas transaction

So there is no extra forex commission 1% / 1.1% if you use HSBC ATM. I called HSBC and they confirmed that.

Hi
I am going to cookisland soon and i have applied Wizard advantage clear Mastercard.. (not sure if i can get it by the time)

i am not sure what is cash advances..

I have few quetions

if i credit money e.g. AUD1000 in my wizard accound.. i can draw AUD 1000, cant i? (without fee in oversea)

or

if i dont put any credit in my wizard account , would they charge me when i withdraw in Oversea ATM?

which is better way using Wizard clear advantage master card as credit card or cash card in oversea?

in the event if i cant get credit card by the time.,, i need exchange to NZD .. TOdays Yahoo currency today was AUD1=NZD1.19
the exchange shop in a street is AUD1=NZD1.16
I found it is not but..
Not sure what wizard credit card exchange rate...

any advice i applicate!

Thank you

:D

The amount you can draw out per day depends on your credit limit (I think). Obviously you will save ATM fees if you use it to withdraw cash and you have credit on it. If you don't have credit on it and you do a cash advance then you will be charged interest straight away (obviously not good), although there will still be no ATM fees (unless ATM owner has them but it should tell you). Credit cards do give you the best exchange rates, particularly the Wizard one.

If you want to put credit on the account or pay it off, it is all done online. You can use bpay, direct debit or send a letter. I use bpay and it usually clears in 2 days.

Once you have the card you can set up online access using the function they call the "Service centre". It's very easy to do.

A pin number will be provided once you have the card. It will be delivered separatly to your new card.

You can change it after that.

In my experience the ATM pin has arrived a few days before the credit card. And I have applied for more than my fair share of credit cards.

Your account has nothing to do with the option you choose. For Wizard you would need to select credit. With Citibank Readycreidt I have been able to get away with cheque or credit option....

I Bpay from my ANZ everyday access account - it does take up to 3 working days for the funds to show up.

I have been using this Wizard Clear Advantage M.C. for years now, and now it comes with my passport every time. As my contribution to this group I have decide to write a (sort of) complete guide to this card, however please correct me if I am incorrect in anything.

Benefits of this card :
1. No annual fee, no overseas ATM fee, no cash advances fee (home and overseas).
2. Generally it has the best exchange rate available for purchases and cash advances.
3. MasterCard acceptance, it has worked in countries such as NZ, USA, UK, Italy, France, Netherlands , Japan, Korea, HK, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and the list goes on.

However, their customer services is considered bad, so always have a second source of funds ready for backup use when overseas.

Applying and getting ready for cash advance :
Apply through their web-site, after you have got the card and the pin, you need to go to their website and download the form in order to withdraw more than $1000AUD in case (not sure if this is still the case?).

How to use:
To avoid paying any interest for cash advance it is important that you put the card to credit before doing cash advance, and always remember how much you have put in and taken out. For example, the card limit is $3,000, and you put in another $2,000, the total credit available (for purchases) will become $5,000, and the amount of cash available to withdrawn interest free is $2,000. Because I mostly use this card for cash advances overseas I usually do not use it in Australia. (except sometime ago when JetStar take $100 off if paying by MasterCard !)

How to put the card to credit
The easiest method is to use bpay, the biller code and the account no. will appear in the statement , remember the account number for bpay is NOT the same as the credit card number ! If you need to put the card to credit before the first statement arrives, call customer service and see if they can give you your bpay account number. [serfty : Just one comment with this; if you do not have a statement handy or otherwise do not know your account number and you want to make a payment/reload anyway, the actual card number will suffice. Processing might take a day or so longer. The bpay biller code is: 150615 ]

Limits on daily cash withdrawals :
The daily limit for cash withdrawals is about $1000AUD, or the foreign exchange equivalent.

Limits on cash withdrawals in any billing cycle :
The limit for cash withdrawal during a billing cycle is the credit limit. For example, if your credit limit is $3,000, and you put another $10,000 in, you can make purchases for $13,000, however for cash advances you can only take $3,000 during that billing cycle.

Exchange rate:
Over time, for me it always provides the best exchange rate available, sometimes the spread is as low as 0.3% from the real exchange rate (compared with at least 2.5% for other credit cards) , which can be checked form the www.oanda.com/convert/fxhistory site. However if the currency fluctuates a lot the spread can be widen however in stable times the rate is always the best.

How to use the ATM:
Find an ATM with the MasterCard sign on it, select credit card and choose the amount to withdraw. In most cases ATMs do not incur a use fee, however in some ATMs (for example the ones in Wal-Mart) they do, but they will tell you before you proceed.

Online facilities:
For your deposits / payments to the card it will take about 2 working days to appear on the web. For purchases and cash advances to appear on the web will take longer, usually about 3-4 working days.

Beware of rip off merchants:
If you use this card (or any other card) for purchases in overseas currencies, sometimes the merchant (including on-line merchants such as Tiger Airways when book from SG website for departures not from Australia) will give you an “option” (or “no-commission conversion”) to debit the card in your home currency (AUD), almost certainly at a much worse exchange rate (usually at least 2.5% worse off). Always insist them to debit the card using the local currency of where you make your purchases, for example in US, use USD. The exchange rate provided by Wizard Clear Advantage is almost certainly better than those rates offered by them.

I think that’s it !

Good guide ! As far as I am aware the form to allow > $1000 withdrawals is not needed any more. I think I read it in another Wizard thread that some regulations had changed and the way they identify people now means it isn't needed. Can anyone confirm this?

If you need your bpay biller code go to your online wizard services site and under the methods of payments it will show the biller code. AFAIK the BPAY ID is your credit card number/account number, just make sure you put in the biller code. I have made a payment using these numbers to my CC and it worked fine, took 2 days.

Good stuff FL360.

Has anybody compared the exchange rate of this card with that of NAB Gold Visa Debit?

I am very interested to know.
