interest from date of txn, but bpay the rough withdrawal a day later and cash advance paid first.

Thanks, I would have thought they couldn't really charge you interest if they actually owed you money. i.e being in credit above the credit limit of the card.

We got a true .6591 in London by using this card at a fee free ATM outside our closest Tesco Express in London. Now that is very impressive.....no sticky fingers hanging off drawing cash out of this card.
We use it for credit card purchases to be fair to GE.

Loving my 28 Degrees Card.

The customer service was horrid, getting a card attached for my wife took far too long than was necessary.

However, i have been paying for int'l prchases ahead of my o/s trip in a few weeks and loving the exchange rate - ended up with (I think) $1.0396 for one of my Amazon purchases. Tried reconciling that with the Mastercard website, but it is hanging for me for some reason).

I'm going on a big Europe trip next month and have been using my new 28 degrees card to book accommodation, internal flights etc.

I've noticed the AU/EU is the highest its ever been right now which is great news for travelling there. I've already exchanged a bit of AU to EU for emergencies and where my 28 degrees is not accepted/appropriate (transport, snacks etc). I'm unsure whether to get more out for things like shopping given the exchange rate is so good now, or just pay for everytuing on my 28 degrees.

Any thoughts? That MC online currency calculator isn't loading. Could anyone check what the EU rate is for today? They're offering 81.8 with no commission at the currency exchange booths in the CBD.

just use any of the million other websites. I use XE.com, but the calculator built into google is also very convenient. just type 1 AUD in EUR and the rate comes up. that method gives 0.84971 and XE shows 0.85097

Whether to change today is up to you. If it's highest ever, then you aren't doing badly not matter which way it goes. the key, like anything in travel, is pay what you are happy with and don't regret not being able to see the future if the rate improves/worsens.

Hi Blueflamenco,

Online application takes less than a minute to process once you submit all the info.
My card arrived less than a week later.
Activation takes about 5 mins as you have to speak to a rep to confirm your details.

Regards
Yusuf

Thanks Yusuf! All done... Hopefully the card arrives before I leave for my next trip :D

No Problem.
Just something I forgot to mention, they didnt send PIN details, I think you need to arrange that on the phone when you activate the card.
Speaking of which, I better do that myself!

Just considering 28degrees card. How do they make any money - just on people not paying up within 55 days??

They get their share of the fee on ordinary overseas and domestic charges by users. Then they would charge you a fortune if you leave a monthly balance unpaid.
Cash advances out of your own money whilst overseas makes me treasure this card as you get a true rate and no fees.

They try to up-sell their other services such as "Shoppers Protection Insurance". And I guess the hope that people traveling may not make their payments on time and incur interest charges.

Thanks for putting me on to 28deg. Are there airlines that would not allow me to book directly in their own country (Not sure what that is technically called),for my return trip?

Hmmm ... the Mastercard rate for that day is showing as 0.117814.

Welcome to MasterCard's Currency Conversion Tool| MasterCard

That's a variance from Xe.com of 1.111% which makes the 'bank fees' 0.278%

I wonder why the difference between mastercard and xe.com ...
From the 28 Degrees website
How is the foreign exchange rate calculated?
The foreign exchange rate is calculated by MasterCard International on a daily basis according to daily foreign exchange fluctuations. The conversion will consist of two calculations if the transaction is made in foreign currency – it will first be converted to US dollars and then calculated to Australian dollars for listing on your transactions.

From the Visa Website
How does Visa calculate its rate?

Every day, except weekends, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, Visa calculates the rate for the next day's transactions. The Visa rate is selected from a range of rates available in wholesale currency markets or the government-mandated rate in effect one day prior to the applicable central processing date. Visa makes this rate available to issuing banks, which may adjust the rate in billing cardholders. The rate Visa makes available to issuing banks may vary from the rate Visa itself receives.

We just load a little bit less than our credit limit and then spend and cash withdraw as needed getting as true a rate as anywhere.

AEON ATMs are not that easy to find although on my next trip I am going to specifically look out for them and make a note of where they are actually located for future trips.

Did you find these???
