I hope to get some suggestions for a great spot to finish up our 2025 holiday. We fly out of Munich at 12.50pm in early July. We are looking for a non-city location to mainly just wind down before travelling back to Aust. We are aware of some recent reliability issues with DB rail but are looking at a radius of around 2hrs from Munich Airport. Tegernsee looks interesting but also on the lookout for other suggestions

I'm not sure if Innsbruck would be too big but I really enjoyed my time there earlier this year

Thanks, have enjoyed Innsbruck previously but looking for a smaller German village this time

Perhaps Prien am Chiemsee? Discover Prien - Prien am Chiemsee Just around an hour from Munich with many trains a day. And then a short steam train connection to the lakeside area. Large lake for boat trips and other small towns to visit. Plenty of biking and swimming opportunities. A 'Ludwig' Palace in the shape of Neues Schloss Herrenchiemsee a few minute ferry ride away. Bavarian Palace Administration | Herrenchiemsee Palace and Park | Tourist information | Overview. Plus a Benedictine Monastery on a nearby island.

It will be probably a bit warmer than on our visit early last December. But just as beautiful in a different way.

I like Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Not quite a village, with ~25,000 between the two towns, but plenty to see and do in and around. Probably right on the 2 hour radius if using public transport
