3 Weeks in Japan - The Post COVID Version!

Only because I was being obsessive due to nil prior experience with Japanese service.

The petrol fill-ups are impressive. Attendants bowing as you drive off🤣.

But nothing beats the JR rail service when Mrs QS arrived on crutches at Liyama JR station (after Nagano)
Which is why Mrsdrron is thinking of taking her sling with her on our future trips.

Of course- Mid Jan with apologies

Winter...hmm, that's interesting.
I would skip Arashiyama...
Maybe one day in Gion/Higashiyama area, ie Kiyomizu Dera, Kodai-ji, Yasaka Shrine to Chion-in & Shoren-in.

One day Kikaku-ji, Ryoan-ji & Ninna-ji, Kitano Tenmangu.

One day Ginkaku-ji, Nanzen-ji, Heian Shrine, Kyoto City Museum...

However that is a lot of temples, I like this stuff not sure about your BIL though.
Does he like tea? Maybe swap one day to go to Uji, and Fushimi Inari Shrine is on the way.

We are going to use the JR Rail pass to go to Nagoya for a day too…. one person very keen on the Toyota museum there.

Shinkansen to Nagoya is super quick!
Maybe the others can do something different....Nagoya Castle, Inuyama, all perfectly doable.
And try Hitsumabushi!

Not sure I can bring myself to eat the eel. Still recovering from the heart, liver, gizzards yakatori we accidentally ordered in Hiroshima the other day. But the oyster omelette last night was superb.

Sigh, Unagi is one of my top 3 favourite...
Well the other famous Nagoya dish is Miso Katsu, surely that's no problem for everyone?

What's your favourite fugu restaurant? 🙂

I've only eaten this in Tokyo and Osaka, it was okay but I wouldn't say great.
Apparently you need to go to Shimonoseki for fugu...

Edit, In my best Yoda voice,
little league player, I am not. 🤣

We take clients here for fugu, to popular acclaim:

And for a side trip, Geumsubokguk in Pusan is the best fugu place I’ve ever eaten at.

We have been to Japan a few times and eaten a few unusual things, saying that we have eaten more unusual things in China. I wonder at what point in history did someone catch an ugly fish ate it and died and then at what point did others start to work out what parts could be eaten without dying. I am yet to try fugu but I will most likely give it a go.
