Yes but given the inventory allowances it would be better to book SQ awards using SQ KF miles.

In theory yes, if you just have enough miles for J and not J+Y, what you can do is waitlist J on A380 first, then book J on 77A/A330 if possible (or even Y if needed). Then you don't need to have Y+J mile balances.

SQ don't take miles off you for waitlisting. What it means is that as long as you have the point balance you can waitlist a lot of itineraries for free.

Transferred just over 56K MR points to VS. After 30% bonus and my existing small balance it will get to 80001 miles which I will be looking at HKG-SYD one-way J for 2 or SYD-HKG J return in the future. I will keep the rest of my MR points for flexibility purposes.

Yeah must be some deal VS is having with AMEX Hopefully they will have another 30% or higher special in the near future I wonder if they will have one for SQ! I doubt it!

I looked at the VS charts for partner airlines for SQ, SYD-SIN return is 85000 VS miles for J, so lesser than the 93.5K for using Krisflyer but not sure about availability...

How about SYD-HKG?

I find that usually Award UC is quote easy to get on SYD-HKG-SYD

I had already booked SYD-MNL with BMI and from there I will head off to BKK.

I transferred 42,308 Amex MR points and less than 24 hours later 55,000 VS miles appeared in my account and booked my HKG-SYD flight in upper class.

I am looking at booking SYD-HKG for 26 December and availability seems to be quite good.

JohnK I've booked Upper Class redemption to/from HKG either side of Rugby Sevens weekend 2 years in a row and had no issue with availability 1-2 months out. Hopefully you'll have the same experience.

That is interesting. It would appear that trying to book HKG-SYD in July and October is that there is no availability on Friday nights. Can't wait too long to book as it then makes BMI awards much harder to book.

Amex has a 20% bonus offer on now. Not sure if it is targetted or not.

Not as good as the 30% bonus offer but may still help some people. Makes a one-way redemption SYD-HKG in business class only 33,334 Amex MR points + ~AUD200 in taxes and surcharges.
