How strict is Jetstar with the 30 min baggage drop cutoff.. I have a work mate who has booked them and has 45 mins between an arriving flight (on another airline) and the depature of the Jetstar flight.

Very. 31mins you made it. 29 you haven't.

Keep in mind that you need to factor in time to deboard the aircraft and find the checkin desks. There could also be a queue at bag drop. Usually staff will call out a flight before they close it, so hopefully you can move to the front of the queue.

45mins is pushing it.

That's what I told them, but they were interested in the $$ savings.....

They are actually flying into Darwin on an international flight... So they have 15 mins to get bags and through customs...

OUCH!

They have a significant chance of realising the consequences of this... And it won't be cheap either.

If he has carry on only, he MAY make the connection. esp if he has OLCI (and has a printed BP) for the domestic flight:shock:

Won't happen! Oh well I guess they will learn the expensive way!

Oh dear. That's just not possible. They will have to pray for an earlier flight. Or a checkin agent that will move them to the next flight free of charge.

Could be a costly mistake!!

Personally I am hoping he doesn't as he didn't listen to my advice about the flights.

But it IS possible if everything falls into line...

Plane lands on-time, off the plane in say 3 minutes, bags out in another 5 minutes, front of the line in customs, 2 minutes, run to the bag drop 2 mins.

Could be done in 12 minutes in a perfect world I guess

Yep, it is possible. Darwin is a very small airport. Planes run early, C&I can be quick, people can run like the wind!

And that's the core problem. You don't want to be in a position where you tell someone "Won't work", and then later it works. You can only advise.

I'm gonna join the line saying this can't be done, unless there is some biblical aligning of the stars on the night. There is just so much that could go wrong. Plane lands 5 minutes late, customs officer decides to ask some questions etc etc.

Best hope would be for the flight they are connecting to, to be delayed some way or another. Or have the stars align.

Better tell him to start praying to every deity he knows.... because in our world that doesn't happen.

I know Perth is busier than Darwin, but I landed in Perth with only 1 flight arriving internationally, and it still took me (with first dibs at immigration) at least 20 minutes to get out. Don't forget that the 15 minute margin starts from when the plane docks at the gate. You still have to open the door, get out on the aisle, exit the plane and onto immigration. That takes more than 3 minutes.

I think your friend hasn't got a chance. Then again, Finland did win the Eurovision Song Contest once....

I assume they booked these flights separately rather than as one ticket? If the latter, then JQ has some serious questions to answer.

Also, are you sure they are two separate flights? I thought there was a different kind of procedure for those flights on JQ which go via DRW but have one flight number. But even if it were one of those I would be rather surprised that JQ would time the transit at a mere 45 minutes (even for an airline as inept as JQ for that matter).

I've done 12 minutes at SYD *once* and that was by shear luck. If you get caught in the Immigration queue, your stuffed. or even in Quarantine! too many variables! Maybe missing the flight will be a lesson learnt to them!

You have to let us know!

True - Waiting for baggage could take 15 mins easily! From the time the plane lands to bags coming out.

Yep I'll follow up this thread with what happens!

I have been out of MEL airport (once) from landing to car pick up in 20 mins  That is my record!

I get slightly excited when baggage takes less than 25mins at MEL. I have no experience at DRW. But 15mins just for baggage sounds stretching it to me.

...and if I read the post correctly, the arriving flight is not Jetstar. (sounds like it may be a Air Asia flight from Darwin?)

Hmmm...my mistake then. Now JQ definitely is not going to be in fault here if the OP's friend misses the flight.

Now if the arriving airline has an early reputation.... hey...perhaps the OP might have a chance. I've heard Air Asia closing flights early and leaving due to light pax loads / all pax boarding early.

Obviously a steep learning curve for some. Cheap is sometimes about paying more.........
