Every personal piece of info you leave online allows 3rd parties to build a profile of you. As an example, people in America clicking the facebook "Like" button activate a plug-in tracker that enabled their personal details along with any internet searches of say medical sites (looking for medical explanations of conditions) to be viewed by insurance companies. This has happened and some people had claims refused on the basis of data returned from their searches.
