5 Safest Airlines

With all this talks about airlines safety, it makes me to be more prudent to check out airlines with code share to see which airlines are the one that actually does the flying!!

I have to do a SYD-TPE-SYD and found out that all the QF flights are code shared with Eva Air and its Eva Air that is actually doing the flying. Can one of you gurus give some advice on this route on Eva Air (and their safety practices) or should I go QF SYD-HKG-SYD and CX HKG-TPE-HKG? Could even be cheaper!

Many thanks and much appreciated,

ric

At least they got rid of the MD11 services, I generally go via HKG and do a stopover there as there is more choice of airlines servicing HKG.

An interesting topic!

I think it's more important to look at accidents involving aircraft maintainance issues that human issues.

Egypt Air and Silk Air both had an extreme human element insofar as there was some question regarding pilot suicide.

Aloha Airlines and Alaksa air both had poor maintainance issues which is manifestly more important because it then doesn't matter about the skill of the crew.

That would even have to extend to Ansett and the cracks discovered which grounded their 767 craft, and I was an Ansett supporter to the end!

Given that flying is currently still contolled by humans, there will always be a chance for human error, the whole CRM concept is aimed at reducing this, but it can never eliminate it, its like medicine. Noone ever sets out to make a mistake (OK discount if someone decides to achieve CFT) so I'm not sure that some of these indicate an 'unsafe' airline.

Its more about the internal processes and maintainance (IMO).

I could go on for ages about this as I am intimately involved in bringing CRM concepts into health care, but I won't bore everyone!

Cheers

Sorry I don't agree with you here. Some years ago the primary cause of aircraft incidents/accidents was maintenance error. These days the majority (over 65%) is Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFT). The aviation companies, military and/or airlines that feature the highest with these type of problems are those who lack adequate CRM.

There are numerous publishings from CASA, CAA, FAA etc to this affect. :D

I would have tobe carried kicking and screaming onto an SQ flight.

Hmmm.....That seems to what's happening with the flight crews on QANTAS flights these days... a lot of kicking and screaming.

I'd feel much safer if the crews concentrated on their duties rather than beating the s@#t out of each other!

Singapore Airlines for me any day!!

Point accepted straitman.

Where I was coming from was an airline with poor maintainance standards and internal processes is unlikely to have good CRM and therefore an unsafe airline. Poor CRM will do the same job.

Human behaviour can be unpredictable (Egypt Air?) where sometimes the swiss cheese just lines up!

Cheers

Never again - China Airways and Whyalla Air (RIP)

You are a very brave person to take China Air. I will never fly China Air or Air China even in the 1st Class with cash bonus and extras.

No way...

I am very safety mided person. Eva air is probably the best Taiwan Airline. I would not fly China air. Normally I will fly QF to HK and the DragonAir to TPE or any TAiwan port.

Just recently flew EVA Air TPE-VTE on their new once weekly service on a MD 90.

Good flight, good service, very empty flight, wife and I in J class (12 seats) and about two thirds full in Y.

Only been going for three weeks so the traffic may pick up.

Cheers

That was in 1993 with wife number 1 (QF CSA), who organised the flights (as we were ID90 fares) Shanghai/Hong Kong. We went up on DragonAir which I loved...excellent service.

I decided then never to fly China Air again..or anything that has "China" in it (Eastern, Southern) after seeing the crash statistics...so 13 years and I haven't broken my promise.

hi MetroAir,

Welcome back to Australia. So do we have two new AA Platinum members in our midst??

Hi Lindsay

Well I hope one at least!

I've put all the CX miles to it, but they've not all come through yet.

The other half was on a CX points ticket from Starwood and Amex points, so no qualifier.

Trip was generally great. CX home was a bit gruesome. I'll find some thread to tell about it. HKG lounge should be the benchmark for all other J class lounges.

Cheers
