5 Types of Carry-on Bag to Avoid

Have to confess to skipping half the thread, so some of this may have been raised before.

IMHO 2 wheelers are better for carry-on simply because they're more versatile than 4 wheelers - easier to place at rest (even sit on, if necessary), easier to wheel on less forgiving terrain when on foot, and all the other reasons mentioned above for actual stowage on the aircraft. I find 4 wheelers are much better suited to checked-sized luggage, where they provide easier mobility on the ground and will almost never be used in the circumstances noted above.

As for cost, we can't all afford Tumi or Rimowa bags, but there are plenty of reputable and quality carry-on bags you can buy for a reasonable price - rather than setting arbitrary price guides, it's better simply to do a wee bit of research for the bag that best suits your needs / budget.

5 Types of Carry-on Bag to Avoid

Garment bags
Is this some kind of a joke? Limiting exactly what you can put into your bag is one of the worst decisions you can make in relation to a carry-on. While the garment bags may keep your suits reasonably pressed, there is actually a reason why every hotel room you have ever been in has an iron and ironing board. If you’re worried about your suit that much, you should be wearing it on the plane. Otherwise, roll it up and stick in.

There is no hard and fast rule. We all have varying needs. We are different shapes and sizes. Different trips and destinations may dictate varying styles of luggage. I don't always use the same carry-on. Big daypack, small daypack, satchel, roller...depends on the trip.

Having read through the posts about 4 wheelers and rough terrain.....surely one just uses the 4 wheeler like a two wheeler in those scenarios?

The only, albeit minor to me, issue I tend to agree with on the 4 wheelers is the lack of a "brake" when on a slope!

I have had my $50 2 wheeler carry on case for over 11 years. is combined backpack and 2 wheeler . Has detachable day pack as well which I can pack inside trolley case if I use those nifty vacuumable compression type bags which I think are heaven on a stick. I always overload it so have never used it as carry on.

My last piece bought had a huge amount of reseach go into it. I was walking through the Vic markets feeling somewhat like a pack horse and decided "stuff this". A luggage guy was there, had a two wheeler for $20. Sold. My exhaustive research dictated it suited my needs/budget.

You were ripped off !

You were ripped off !

Traipsing around Vic markets with an armful of cough.........I most certainly wasn't ripped off! I would have paid double to get rid of the burden (I mean the goods, OK....not the wife and kids! I would have paid triple for that!)
