I'm currently Gold, I logged in to see if it'd let me purchase this however claims I already have a membership (I've never paid for one although did receive the trial one before gold through the status match) and to head to the renew page. On the renew page it then claims I can renew for $270.

Does anyone know what'd happen when I do this? I was under the impression that QF Club memberships are put on hold when you hold Gold or above status so does that mean if I pay the $270 I'd get QF club for a year once I drop from Gold?

I guess this means there's a sale starting next week?
well, the East Coast deal is on-going

theres a ordinary Deal until 18th October which is nothing special. Prices from my city are just the “normal“ Red-E deal....

Most likely.

As a lowly Gold I for one despise this move by QF. The QF Clubs are crowded enough as it is with fellow Gold members and any Tom, Dick n' Harry with a guest pass from a credit card or apology handkerchief from Uncle Alan. The last thing we need are "influencers" entering the lounge thanks to this cheapo membership! This is to say nothing of those airports which don't have a separate QF Club and QF Business lounge to segregate folks by status/class of travel (I'm looking at you CNS and HBA!).

Having been in a number of QF lounges recently, I can't see how at even 50% off this fee is even realistic.

QF lounges are a complete zoo.

What's funny about this Qantas Club sale is that a bunch of Americans are advertising it because QC gets access to AA lounges. It's a bargain for them with the weak Australian dollar.

That could actually be a good deal for Americans!

The renewal (and the new member) discounted rate is less than my current corporate rate - so - I call QF to join as a regular Club member and dump my corporate membership (figuring that there should be future discount renewal periods that I could utilise to stay at the "discount" rate) - but - I can't do it. I'm advised that I can't "join" the Club program until my current membership runs through to its expiry date.

I think it's strange that QF want to knock back what is essentially a double payment for one membership. In fact, given the amount of money that QF has, and is, making on manipulating the issue and redemption of COVID vouchers I would have thought that they'd welcome free money like this!

By the by, the overseas QF operator also said that I couldn't change my corporate scheme number - strange given that I have had and used at least five different scheme numbers over the years.

Hmm. AUD$399. Even at half price I'm not sure of the value proposition.

A few years ago when VA1 was still alive the rumor was that basically anyone with a valid VA ticket could enter the lounge status or not by paying a fee at the lounge counter - if memory serves this was reportedly about 60$. I had status at the time and/or flew J so I never really paid much attention. I do certainly remember paying $60ea for additional guests when I was a VA plat and had a bunch of family flying with me which exceeded the platinum 'free' allowance.

I had formed the impression that QF allowed the same ... or was going to, I never tested the theory. Comments welcome.

Is this ad-hoc pay-to-enter no longer a thing? $399 @ $60 / entry is 6 entries with some change left over. 3 return flights if you use the lounge at both ends. I suppose if you mostly travel in pairs it works a lot better given guest access against the primary membership holder.

I had QF club membership long ago and remember feeling the hint of handcuffs that came with it. Given the outlay, I felt urged to book QF flights even if they were not BFOD to try and realise the value of the QF Club. I can't remember now if the QF Club allowed entry on JQ tickets as it now apparently does - perhaps this is some added value I'm not fully thinking through.

The best value of membership for me used to be the increased baggage allowances that came with it. The increased baggage allowances were devalued pre-COVID (I think it was then)!

The shopper in the family loved having 5x30kg to fill when we were coming back from the US in J! Apparently those days are gone (and I can't be bothered looking up what the current allowance benefit - if any - is, not having flown for the last three years).

It is unclear of the T & C of the offer. Should the new member flying Jetstar can access with a guest flying international routes. Does it apply, for example flying Jetstar from Queenstown to Auckland taking a guest?

It is a magnificent deal for Americans. Much cheaper (even with a good AUD!) than Admiral's Club membership AND QF Club membership comes with drink vouchers for the bar (that AA Club doesn't)!

So I can join for $399, and before window closes in a few days buy another 12 months @ $270?

I had a friend stump up for a 2 year membership on Thursday 6 October. Ouch $1,100....

but his reasoning was monthly trips 24 trips with partner = 48 entries = $22 per time plus international travel plus any business trips plus ..... and upon signup he guested someone in straight away. This after I flew to Melb and had guested him into J lounge, the day before . (Spice bar is good !) plus on the way home from where we were at a seminar
