I am flying out of PRG mid November after arriving in MXP six days earlier. I can head straight there or take my time. What sort of time should I allow in PRG, and any tips on the best sights to see?

I have been to MXP a couple of times before, and will be there again no doubt, but am not sure when I will get to PRG next.

I haven't been to Prague so can't help with that, but Cesky Krumlov was beautiful and is only about 180km from Prague.

I agree with Cesky Krumlov it was recommended to me and I loved it - doable in a day trip from Prague but long day.

Below is an extract of my email I sent home while in Prague

"I loved Prague. The dırectıons for the unıt were fantastıc and ı loved the place I stayed ın. I took a bus from the aırport to the metro then the metro ınto town and then a tram to the apartment all for less then 2 aussıe dollars. Dropped my bags off and pıcked up my keys (I wıll emaıl you all the websıte for the acc so you can look at ıt - ıf anyone ıs goıng to prague I so recommend ıt). I then went for a walk to vısıt Vysehrad Castle whıch was only 10 mıns away - took some great pıcs. I then caught the tram up to Charles Brıdge - tourısts everywhere and they are actually repaırıng some of the brıdge whıch was a lıttle sad but then agaın future generatıons can also enjoy ıt. I walked a long way to Prague Castle - thankfully behınd a group of USA tourısts on a guıded tour so I got to hear a lot of stuff about the area. Whıle at Prague Castle I seen the changıng of the guard - ınterestıng and rather lıttle. I dıd the St Vıtus Cathedral (amazıng) and St George Basılıca. I then headed back ınto town for tea - lovely pannı chıcken and a chocolate crossıant (sp?). The next day was my Mums birthday and I had already scoped out the telephone box to call her from - 15 mıns later we got off the phone so the home phone bıll ıs goıng to be ınterestıng when I get home. I went to Wencesıas Square and the Old town and dıd the most funnıest clock thıng wıth the Astronomıcal clock - blınk and you mıss ıt my cookoo clock goes for longer!!!! I also dıd the Powder Tower but the vıew from the top was not really that amazıng. I would have loved to have done Ossuary whıch ıs the church wıth human bones carved but ıt was a long way and I would have lost too much tıme - but then agaın I LOVED prague so defınately goıng back one day."

The 1 bedroom place was like airbnb but it included cooked breakfast every morning and was great value - just went and found it - she is still doing it

I take it you are taking the JFK-MXP, PRG-NRT or similar fare?
Yes. JFK-MXP, PRG-CDG-BKK. I am still debating whether to take the last leg CDG-BKK (Y) or head a bit further east for a LM fare in J. ;)

Deejo77, thanks for the review and link to the accommodation. I think I know where I am staying now!

I have JFK-MXP in September and GVA-AMS-CGK in November. A bit more expensive at around 400AUD, but fitted my circumstances well.

!

I've got the same JFK-MXP, PRG-AMS-NRT. I'm thinking of going to VCE for a couple of days first, the family hasn't been there yet, not sure if we're going to do AMS-NRT in Y or just head back...it's a long trip with a 10 year old.

I have decided to drop the CDG-BKK leg, and travel home slightly more circuitously but in slightly more comfort.

I now think I will train it to VIE from MXP on the CNL and then up to PRG. That will give me 4-5 days there. Berlin will have to wait for next time.

Hi Jessica, I will follow your thread with interest. I will be in Prague from the 8th to the 14th November, attending a conference.

Haven't had time to look into what to see and do there yet but everyone I know who has been there raves about the place.

I fly out on the 11th so I think a Czech meet up is on the cards. :)

I think you might be right there. I'm planning to fly in from London on the 8th, looking at accommodation in the old town as the conference hotel looks boring and is in the newer part of Prague.

I will keep you updated on my plans.

Hey Jessica, did you end up making it to Prague? I tried to PM you but your mailbox is full

I have been enjoying your TR but I'm not sure where you are up to in your travels.

I will be in Prague for the next few days if you are about.

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,

I left Prague this morning for IST and beyond.

I ended up taking the night train from Milan to Vienna and overnighting there. Then I trained to Prague and had four nights in that glorious city.

Missed it by that much!

Sorry to have missed you Jessica. Hope you had a good time here, I'm sure I will find out when your TR catches up.

Had a good start to my trip here with a beep at the gate and BA upgraded us to J for our flight over from LHR.

Unfortunately I am here on work so I won't get to see a lot of the city but I impressed with what I have seen so far.

Safe travels...
