Got a mate doing the following (to meet up with me in Japan)

12/7
ADL-SIN (11:50AM - 5:40PM) SQ268
13/7
SIN-KIX (1:10AM - 8:35AM) SQ618

I've suggested he and his partner leave the airport for the layover, any suggestions/recommendations on how to do so and where to go?

6 hours is plenty of time.

My instructions:

Walk towards Immigration.
Show Passport and Immigration Form.
Smile.
Enjoy the smart alec comment you'll get if your passport photo doesn't match you.
Jump in a cab.
Ask for one of the Hawker markets (best to choose one beforehand based on food type preference, and have read up on Hawker food market etiquette before travelling).
Choose stall, order food, enjoy food.
Travel Back to Airport.
Back through Immigration.

Or, they should consider checking out the Singapore Night Zoo. It's touristy, but not too bad. Not too expensive either really, including cab fares etc.

Alternative #2, head to the Raffles Hotel for a Singpore Sling (and perhaps some more drinks) and the bragging rights that they've had one!
Alternative #3, just stay in SIN and check out the movie theatre, walk around and perhaps the gardens upstairs.
Alternative #4, the sky wheel (www.singaporeflyer.com.sg) has opened ("The world's largest observation wheel'). Could be worth a visit, followed by a vist to the various quay's for a walk or drink, before heading back

Definitely the night zoo (touristy but excellent) or Clark Quay for dinner.

East Coast Seafood Centre is only a few minutes from the airport and does fantastic chilli mud crab too but I'd recommend the zoo.

Or if you want to save even more money take the train into Clark Quay or somewhere for some drinks and food.
Could always visit the alternative night safari / zoo (OT as its otherwise known) just for a drink and a laugh :)

Whats your friend into ? if i would be in town and not in Japan on the weekend i would offer to show him some real singapore food or something but i am taking off thursday night.

I knew you'd be lurking somewhere Evan :D

Where in Japan will you be? I fly into NRT on the 12th @ 10am, then will be making my way down to KIX area via N'EX & Shinkansen.

Wow, almost the same trip, i fly into NRT on the 11th at 6:35am on JL710 and take the N'EX and Shinkansen to KIX area (Kobe, but thats close to Osaka) and then fly out again from NRT on tuesday morning back to SIN.

Not sure what your plans are but maybe we could even arrange to meet one night or something.

Take shorts and t-shirts ! its hot hot hot i am told.

Sorry to hijack this thread but my question is somewhat similar:-

I am looking to book JL722 KUL-SIN , arriving at 1050pm.

I am then looking to book the following morning JQ3651 which departs SIN at 630am enroute to MNL.

Would I be allowed to squat myself at the airport for the 7hrs+ (as I wouldn't want to bother my sister who lives in SIN and ask her to pick me up only to drop me back a few hours).

I can access to SIN QP if that helps.

My similar (albeit slightly longer) stay in SIN started with this, then a trip to 4FOW for a bit of a laugh with some documentary film makers I met at Raffles (a married couple funnily enough) then a late dinner and a few drinks at Clarke Quay. :)

Two options - Ambassador Transit Hotel, about $60 for six hours (or used to be, actually that might have been SGD too), or go to T3, up to the mezzanine level (up the escalators) and you'll find - near the restaurants some good comfy sofas to stretch out. I assume QP will close overnight, depending of course, on how late QF9 or QF31 are running .....

Two things
  • ask JL and JQ if they will interline your bags. If not then you will need to clear immigration and collect bags. You will not be able to check-in with JQ until about 3 hours before departure, so will be stuck landside until then. If they will through-check the bags, then you can remain airside at SIN.
  • If staying air-side, seriously consider booking a room at the air-side transit hotel. But book early as it does fill up at busy times.
I can access to SIN QP if that helps.
The QP is only open prior to QF departures. Expect it to be closed for most of the time you are in SIN, so its not going to be of much use to you.

You might want to try the free City tour! ...
Not applicable for either of the posted transit periods ...
Tour counters operating hours : 0800 hr to 1625 hr
Tour timings : 0900hr, 1100 hr, 1300 hr, 1500 hr, 1600 hr and 1700 hr
(All tours are conducted in English)
BTW, I have done one of these with an 11 hour transit 5am thru 4pm ... may be interesting if you have never been to Singapore before, other than that, it's a way to pass a couple of hours.

Other than that, the movies are pretty recent ... check the programmes posted outside the theaters:

Just wondering what this JQ3651 is??

I thought it was 3K since it's a Jetstar asia flight.
If it's a 3K flight checkin opens 2hrs prior..

I experince a 6 hour layover very much like the one mentioned on my way to ATH from ADL. I normally like to go to Orchid Road and visit Ngee Ann City and The Paragon. Sometimes i go to Bugis Junction, which has shops and a night market.

You're correct, it is a 3K flight (3K 561.)

JQ offer limited codeshares on their intra-asia network. I think if you look at TA sites you could find them.

Big thing is whether you can have your luggage interlined onto 3K or if you can go carry-on only on that flight. If so stay airside for a while, fairly easy to find quiet places in SIN and use the QP till they boot you, maybe CX lounge (although doubtful as flying 3K), or movie theatre, check out the new Terminal...

I actually did a similar (timing wise) interline to PG (Bangkok Air) at BKK. Spent 2.5hrs in FL, wandered around had a half hour massage, went to one of the 24hr bars on the top floor and the guy let me sleep in the indoor smoking room (very comfy). Then out through immigration and check back in in the morning. Word of warning - you have to physically use immigration at BKK at that hour, you can't use the Domestic Transit point (no immi officers)
