Being a novice at at the SC chasing game, I'd like to tap in to the wealth of experience here on AFF to help me achieve my goal.

Currently a first-time SG thanks to favourable travel circumstances earlier this year. Sitting on 780SC. My membership year ends on 31 December.

I'm taking my mum on a trip to the USA in February 2014. I'd love to show her the SYD FLounge, and have easy access to lounges in the States while we are over there. Better service would be a nice byproduct. WP would make things a lot more comfortable.

My limitations: 86k points; no more than a few thousand $$; able to travel on most weekends.

From my reading I know there are still some favourable domestic xASAs to be found, as well as cheap international deals like LAN's SYD-AKL-SYD run for 160SC.

I've got 5 months to get this done — any tips would be appreciated.

Cheapest way that I know would be to use those points to get to TPE and from there do 3 TPE-HKG-MNL returns which will earn 600 SCs. Or if that sounds boring do 2 TPE-HKG-MNL returns and throw in a TPE-HKG-SIN return which alltogether should be 640 SCs.

Total cost for flights with taxes and surcharges for awards would be less than $2000 but you will need some costs accommodation.

You could do better with Any Seat award but I am not sure of routes or cost.

If you're going over that way, a TPE-KUL-MNL return in J would get you 320SC, and I can see some of those on MH D class for just under 20k TWD (~$750) as alternative. Only two returns to make it, but they're longer than via HKG.
