717 on CBR flights

I just did a quick trip report with photos here.

Just as a matter of interest and being a little picky I wouldn't call the 717's flying to Canberra refurb 717's, I would be calling them the 2 class 717's or V3's. To most the refurb 717 is the the new seating version of the existing fleet.

PS thanks for the pics and the review though.

So they have been refurbed after a refurb...

Not really, the 5 717's that are going to be 2 class are new to Qantas, ex Mexicana Click.

Just saying what I said so that people don't see refurb 717 and confuse these 5 with the exiting Qantaslink fleet that is also being refurbed at the moment but in a completely different configuration. That refurb is explained in the article below.

QantasLink debuts refurbished Boeing 717: slim seats, but more of them - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Not real QANTAS flights, run by Cobham Aviation.

Enjoy the tail strikes and crash landings as you munch on your SnakPak!!

Oh, I see they've finally gotten around to putting the status blocking on the 717s :)

Better than exploding engines and landing in the mud at bangers?

As discussed elsewhere it seems as if seat selection (and hence status blocking) is only being done on the 2 class 717

This is a 2 class. They're selling J on it.

I can see that, just pointing out that they haven't "finally gotten around" to doing seat blocking on the 717's as you so out it, just that it is something unique (at this stage it seems) to the 2 class.

As in non two class QF Link flights have all the seats blocked by virtue of advance seat selection not being on offer until OLCI.

So just to clarify markis10 - what you and others are saying is that, currently, if you book a flight on a single class QF Link B717 flight (not the 2 class B717 services) say ASP-DRW then advanced seat selection is unavailable until OLCI opens, where presumably passengers can select seats on OLCI?

And if you book a 2 class QF link B717 flight (say CBR-BNE) then Y and J class passengers can do advanced seat selection.

Is that the current state of play?

Qantaslink flights don't have advance seat selection outside of window/aisle choices, the two class aircraft are the first to have this on offer.

I think you've missed my point.

When I did seat selection the entire cabin was open (which is why I've selected 4C). Now it's restricted to what I'd expect as a Gold (yes I dropped) until T-80.

I took my first flight in the 2 Class B717 CBR to BNE this evening. Pre-selected 4D (available straight after booking - no waiting for T-80). I'm just on 6 ft, and found the bulkhead a bit too close for my liking, but with 4D being slightly offset I could stretch into the aisle reasonably comfortably. I think I would find 4A,C and F too tight.

Next time I might try a normal row (5?) as a comparison.

I certainly found the aircraft quiet, with a rather different noise profile to the B737.

Flew on a 717 CBR to MEL on Saturday in J as part of a JASA to HBA. Funny thing was the flight posted with 0 points and 0 SCs, all other legs of this booking posted correctly.
When I queried this with the FF team they were perplexed as well, the QantasLink flight had been registered as "other airline" and not valid to earn points (maybe they are planning to sell QantasLink off) . Points were issued with a manual override by the team.

Thanks for the heads up! I've booked a JASA on a 717 flight from BNE to CBR on Christmas Day, so I'll have to check the points and DSC posting...
