737 Row 1 Business

I'm interested to know what other members think of row 1 on a 737 compared to other seats...

Personally I find the leg room in row 1 less than a standard economy seat due to the bulkhead and the recline is such that I'm at an angle that is uncomfortable... A little more recline would be near perfect.

So row 1 - the system always tries to allocate me there but I always move to row 2 or 3. Today I got bumped from 2C to 1C on a full flight. Legroom is a serious issue for me (hence why I fly biz where possible).

What are your thoughts on row 1?

As a P1 can your personal QF assistant annotate your profile for row 2? Or can it be done with a 'rear cabin' selection on your profile page in QFFF?

To those who don't like ppl reclining into them.

The recline on these aircraft doesn't affect legroom and rows 2-3 are also more private.

Having a seatback in my face affects me. I don't like squeezing past people and I like the window so row 1 windows are ideal. I can get past the person in the aisle very easily.

The row 2/3 leg room post-recline isn't the issue, it's the "waist-up space" that is very diminished by the recliner.

On short flights of around an hour, row 1 is king, but for something a bit longer, say BNE-CNS/MEL I have started thinking row 2 is a better bet. Not because of recline or legroom, but the fact there's quite a few AVOD aircraft around and while I might not use the system on a short flight, on a slightly longer flight gate-to-gate makes all the difference... and you can't turn it on till in the air if you're in the first row.

I was in 2C today but got booted to 1C. Some guy called Tony Abbot managed to snake my seat.

TBO I hate 737s and try to sleep through the flights but it's impossible to do so with the legroom in row 1. To sleep and put your head on the seat cushioning it means you need to slouch a little in the chair, which means more legroom is required.

Row 1 for me offen I have had 1A and no one in 1C.

I prefer row 1 myself, specifically the two window seats as it allows me to look out the windows and still gives me good access to the aisle. Granted I am only about 5ft8 so I don't have a huge problem with the bulkhead. Likewise, I prefer row 23 on the 763s.

At 1.85 cm I find the first row ok, if I was any taller it would be uncomfortable. Also part of the lockers above row 1 seems to be taken up with equipment. So row 2 an be a good choice.

If you get one of the modern 737s with personal video screens often row 3 can be good. Some 737s have seat back screens in business, if you get one of these then you can get someone behind you tapping away at the touch screen all flight. But because row 4 has screens on an arm then row 3 will have no one tapping their seat.

Having said that the Jetconnect 737s seem to have their business video screens all on arms, which is different from the Qantas mainline 737s.

Wow, at 1.85 cm, I can't imagine that legroom would pose any problem for you at all! ;)

Generally I prefer row 1 for many of the reasons already mentioned: one of the first served, no one reclining back into you crowding space, especially if trying to work on laptop, and easy enough to get out of A or K without disturbing C or D too much.

I hate the first row in a cabin and always un-select it when in J on non-skybed aircraft (ie most domestic flights) and in Y or PE if they are bulkhead seats.

So many times these types of seats are considered 'extra leg room', but for persons like me (nearly 6' 3") they are often a terrible choice! Unless the 'extra leg room' is at least the amount of leg room you'd get in a regular seat in the same cabin... Certainly not on QF 737s and domestic 767s anyway...

No recline is the advantage and I'm not disagreeing with that. But these seats can be terrible for really tall people. I'll put up with a recline if there is somewhere to comfortably put my legs.

I cant even pick row one...
We can only pick row 3 on some flights (mainly Cbr-mel or CBr-SYD), but at T-80 I can usually get row 1 or 2. I would prefer 1, because of recline issues (although it doesn't happen that often). However Mr FM has put a ban on row 1, as he likes to put handbags under the seat in front - I must admit I like my handbag close, so I can easily get reading glasses etc. I have sometimes seen row 1 passengers with a great deal of hand luggage get cranky because they can't fit it in the overhead closest to them - each row has Plusses and minuses.....

I measured the difference today and there is approx 14cm of 'head space' between rows 1 and 2.

The foot space you lose is greater than this.

Row 2 for me. I typically have a rollaboard and a small backpack with me. The rollaboard goes in the overhead and I like to have my backpack under the seat in front. Call me OCD but I like to have everything I need to hand without getting up to the overhead locker.

Good point Tone but I like to do my exercise on the plane by getting up and down regularly. It makes me feel as though I'm getting extra value for my money.
