737H Doco and a darker side to it that you didn't know (or want to know)...

I'll get on a 737 today, tomorrow and the next day.

In fact I'd get on any airline in the USA, Australia and some European airlines.

Would NEVER fly on any Chinese or Indonesian airline though.

This is another "doco" that is simply based around questions with no answers given - a conspiracy theory.

Hardly...

Clear proof that a sub-contractor who was hired to make significant parts for the plane got caught out, "black and white" doesn't sounds like a conspiracy to me.
Even a Boeing team visited the factory, took pictures and couldn't believe their eyes. People who assembled the aircraft (at Boeing) also complained on multiple occasions that the parts weren't fitting, the parts were to be made on a computerized jig that are accurate to 10th's of a mill....

I too fall into the naysayer category. This is another "doco" that is simply based around questions with no answers given - a conspiracy theory. There are many out there written in exactly the same format and tone - questions vetted but never answered, such as the 911 Twin Towers "the government flew the planes", or the "man walked on the moon in Hollywood" to name a couple.

I feel I have just wasted 35 minutes of my life watching this tripe.

I felt a little uneasy after watching the entire doco - especially with some 738 flights this week.

What I gathered from the doc was:-

- Claims were made by multiple bodies about dodgy parts and nobody has taken the time to disprove anything, maybe because it's been happening for decades?! who knows.

- There is no immediate threat now because most of these straps are fairly new in comparision and have not had time to fail. Will they last the 30 years of operational life boeing says they will?

The only fishy thing is the only in-use proof they have is 3 runway overshoots (where the overshot is nothing to do with dodgy parts) and the plane broke into 3 pieces each time when -- perhaps it should not have... One could argue if it had non-dodgy parts and wouldn't have broken up and there would be no fatalities.

If there's anything to these claims, nothing will come of it until there's a major crash :(

Small cracks found in three Southwest Airlines jets

Small, sub-surface cracks have been found in three more Southwest Airlines planes like those thought to have caused another to develop a hole in its cabin roof mid-flight, officials say.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it had been informed there were additional crack indications in the lap joints on the Boeing 737-300s.
Nineteen other 737-300s showed no problems and will return to service.

Thanks for the welcome samh004. I dont work for Boeing, I am an engineer with one of the airlines in OZ that operate them though. ;)

Nice. It’d be good to hear the other side of the story at times here… as there’s always people bashing the unions, but never their side of the story :)

Are you confusing airlines with airframes/manufacturers?

Doesn't the documentary refer to the 738's and not the southwest 733’s?

Yup, only 738’s prior to 2004 were supposedly affected, per the doco. The issue with 733’s is different. 81 of the Southwest 737-300’s have been grounded.

Are you confusing airlines with airframes/manufacturers?

No, should have also added that I am not at all concerned/interested in this documentary.

I have faith in Boeing and the FAA and other bodies which oversee the industry, in the Countries mentioned :)

Boeing whistleblowers allege faulty 737 construction on SBS dateline

Sunday night on SBS

SBS Dateline | A Wing and a Prayer

"
:-|
Could airline giant Boeing really have allowed ill-fitting and dangerous parts into the construction of some of its 737 planes, potentially risking the lives of passengers?

Dozens of the planes are in Australian skies and there have been three suspicious crashes elsewhere in the world, but an investigation to be screened on Sunday’s Dateline alleges that Boeing and the United States authorities have taken little action.

Two former Boeing employees turned whistleblowers, Gigi Prewitt and Taylor Smith, are at the heart of the story.

They say they couldn't keep quiet any longer over defective parts being made by a subcontractor, Ducommun, which they say were then allowed into 737 Next Generation planes between 1996 and 2004… some even had to be hammered into shape or packed with filler to make them fit.

Their allegations have been all the way to the US Department of Justice, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Defence Criminal Investigative Service – all have dismissed them, with Boeing saying they’re ‘without merit’.

But Tim Tate's special investigation alleges conflicting information, intimidation, collusion, and ultimately aeroplanes that are unfit to fly. So are we really safe in the skies? "

That was the one I remember, as I vaguely recall, there weren't that many aircraft in Qantas' fleet that could be connected, as the issues was resolved a while back I thought. Or was it that there were a lot? Either way, it hasn't affected my flying.

1. OMFG>>> BOEING>>> WTF
2. How the hell are they going to control the components coming in for the 787?

How many of QF's 737-800's fall into this category?

I am deeply disturbed by this doco...

Very worried about 737-800's now...

Considering the state of their other regulators in LOTFAP, places like the food associations don't have a lot of power. I'm not surprised that it's the same with the FAA...

The thing is i'm sure Airbus isn't much better in this regard, we just don't know... Just like how RR knew about the A380 engine issue, how Ford knew the explorer was likely to cause deaths...

How is Boeing going to control the quality of the all the components on the 787? really... they can't... not good...
