Can anyone tell me if the seat below is normal for a Qantas 747 J seat? My thoughts were that 15-20mm of light foam over a steel bar isn't perfect for comfort over a 9 hour flight.

my main complaint about the skyseat 1 as well... by the time you reach LAX, you can't wait to be out of that seat.

I have not been in the MKII, but I believe they are much better

The real question is .. why are you lifting the seat up like that? If I saw you do that, I'd give you a good talking to! ;)

I have to admit to looking around to make sure no hosties were watching before taking a peek.

However, given that the seat base is just a flap of fabric and foam, attached only at the back, no damage was done to the seat.

I'm staggered this is normal though. Least comfy airline seat I've ever sat in.

Aghast:shock:. I would hate to waste points on such a seat. Air Niugini is looking better and better!!

It is very high density foam unlike a sofa cushion at home. That said, I remember being in a sky bed not long after they were first installed, and I don't remember them being as uncomfortable as they are now. Perhaps the foam has worn out and the Qantas Cushion Quality Tester only weights 43kg...

I love using points to upgrade to such a seat...

OK, they are not as comfy as the sofa at home, but they are not bad... Better than 14 hours in Y...
