A balance to Qantas bashing

Right off the bat, this is my opinion, of which I am entitled to, and of which you are entitled to disagree with :)

I am sometimes amazed at how people flying in Premium Cabins "expect" to be treated. Personally, the only cabin where I would "expect" to be waited on hand and foot would be First. Business and PE being sub levels of the top service - even on a 3-class config - shouldn't expect it...

I just returned from a round trip QF J CBR-JFK, and on each of the 6 legs of our journey, I only came across one... ONE... average FA, who began the flight ordinarily, but managed to pick up her game as the flight progressed. Because my personal expectation is not as high as others, I cannot complain about any of the service I received. They provided me with a high level of service, what I would expect from a normal QF flight, without being either too attentive or inattentive. I am sure that due to my expectations, if I were to travel with any other airline, I would receive the same level of service, and in some cases better. So this would not be singling out QF as the best or worst.

As for receiving "treats", you can bet that being nice to the crew will get you some special attention, rather than pressing your call button demanding things...

For those who expect to be waited on 100% of the time in Business, I think they should have their expectations adjusted pre-flight... Yes Flight Crew are there to attend to the customers, and to be as helpful as possible, but it isn't their job to make you 100% comfortable 100% of the time. Cut them some slack - they are waiting on dozens of people expecting that they are the only ones who matter... This being the same across all airlines, not just QF.

So getting treats from First Class while sitting in Premium Economy is the norm now?
What I would like to know is what status the OP has with QF and if other pax sitting in the same cabin with the same status were treated equally.

I'm not entirely sure they were from first class. The cheese plate is also a business class thing.

But I agree the special treats are definitely extras. In 16 QFi flights in economy, PE and business, as platinum, over the last 4 years I been given extras from a higher cabin (business stuff in economy) once. I've been asked twice or thrice to let them know if there is anything I'd like, which I understand is code for high cabin stuff. But I never know what to request. Would have had greetings about 80% of the time, but have had zero recognition on 2 or 3 flights. I've also had 2 op-ups.

email to QF Customer Care and request the comments be relayed to whomever it involves, particularly if I am commenting on a named individual or a group of QF staff or crew. I usually get feed back that that will occur and on one occasion was asked if I wanted my comments to be considered a nomination for the crew member for their internal staff awards.

I've used the customer care function to compliment exceptional staff.

IME interaction with ground staff (QFF agents, check-in, lounge, gate) are the ingredients of a pleasant flight. Once on board (seated in the correct seat/cabin;)) the automation kicks in.
