Old Murray Tyrell said his Hunter red wines were different from other local vineyards in that they tasted like a sweaty saddle but only after it had been used by a virgin.

His 1969 long flat red was one of the best value reds I ever bought. I am sure it was 60 cents. I forgot I bought 2 dozen and left a dozen under my bed at home when I began at RPAH in 1970. It was discovered 6 years later. It had aged incredibly well and in 81 or 82 I took it along to a farewell to a long standing wine club member. Some of us were assigned to bring along a bottle in a brown paper bag. I took along that long flat red. Voted wine of the night. Someone had brought along a bottle of Grange.I had a bit to do with Murray in the 60's. I remember he apologised to me when he put the price of his Long Flat Red up from 45 cents to 50 cents
