Waltz was apologetic for unauthorised sharing.
The app put out the following message.

“Signal is widely regarded as one of the most secure messaging apps available, particularly for privacy-conscious users. Its security stems from its use of end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for all communications, including text messages, voice calls, and video calls. This means that only the sender and recipient can access the content, and even Signal’s servers cannot decrypt the data. The app is open-source, meaning its code is publicly available for scrutiny by security experts, which adds a layer of transparency and trust. It also incorporates additional privacy features like disappearing messages, encrypted backups, and a lack of metadata retention—Signal collects minimal user data (basically just your phone number) and doesn’t store message contents or share them with third parties.”
