A few quickies for the Drrons..

On mrsdrron's last weekend in Tassie we decided to have a weekend in Melbourne.We booked a month ago when she found the Flowere show was on.When looking at the hotels it was going to be SPG so I get to LTP before the end of the year.Thought it strange that the Westin was $600 a night and the Sheraton $500 a night.So the 4 Points at just over $200 a night it was.Of course a week ago it finally dawned that it was the Grand Prix weekend.
Our flight from DPO was an hour late so we arrived in MEL just before 1900.The QF 789 that was to do the first direct QF9 was at a gate near where we came in.Decided to take a taxi -cost $60 so for 2 not much dearer than the Skybus.
So to the room.Upgraded to what I presume is a suite.Nice room actually.

We decided to eat in as we were both feeling a little tired.Plats get a 20% discount on food.We started with 2 free drinks.

Mrsdrron had the Waygu burger-average.

I had the BBQ pork ribs.A little dry.As Manu would say-"Where's the sauce?"

We liked the sound of maple glazed pumkin.Unfortunately I think they forgot the maple.

A reasonable breakfast-taken in lieu of the points.But now our plans were dashed.Originally it was going to be easy getting to the show as the Free tram stop is right outside the 4Points with a stop at the entrance to the Flower show.Unfortunately because of the Grand Prix both the 35 and 86 trams started in the CBD and didn't come near Docklands.To rub salt into the wounds all the Grand prix specials were empty at 0900.
The next problem was when we finally got off the tram and were walking into the show the rain began.definitely not the showers that were predicted.So it was into the Exhibition Hall along with everyone else.
So now the flowers.

Depends which winner you mean.
I guess you mean the actual garden competition.Unfortunately that would be outside.There was a period without rain but we didn't see everything outside but saw a few.I'll look through all the pics and see.

Thanks. I don't know much about the competitions. I just overheard something about it. If I remember correctly there was one competition where the second place getter was the same entrant as the winner from last year. I don't know if that information helps.

I'd be one of those hay fever people who couldn't go to the show. The photos are beautiful however.

The winners in the major floral competition were the last pic of post 144.the first 2 pics in 145 were amongst those winners.Obviously were several sections to the competition.

The rain finally eased after 3 hours so outside we went.Some brilliant displays with most flowers out of season.
