A little bit of moderation in Dubai.

The Traveller section of the Age has a review of the inaugural QF1 under its 'flight test' section by Anthony Dennis.

We weren't outside much - but I would have said mid to high 20's with moderate humidity. Normal for this time of year.

We were told the average temperature in July/August is 48 and 80% humidity - that's why most expats have holidays and they have air-conditioned bus stops

Surprised to find out it was above 30 myself, the walking tour did not seem to be that hot.

As LW explains, the bus stops need to be air conditioned!

Thank you for this wonderful report! I was thinking of only changing planes at Dubai on the way to Europe before reading this, but now I will definitely make sure I stop over for a few days. Some really gorgeous pictures on here as well.

+1

Cost me $155 to modify my flights to allow for a 2-day DXB stopover before flying home.

After reading this thread of course !

Wow! Just finished reading 51 pages!!

Must have missed this as I was travelling during that time. Thanks Markis 10, LW and BR for your brillant TRs and wonderful pics.

I had a transit of about 2 hrs at Dubai Airport in 2002 and thought nothing much off it.....but after this report, Dubai will be on my list.
The dinner at the desert sound fun and something of unique experience. Wonder if there are tours that provide this experience?

A pic from our walk. Some people think this hotel is overrated. I personally have enjoyed my stays here and I recommend it. Fantastic restaurants. However the room service is just a bit too intuitive for my liking. After we finished eating there was a knock on the door and the butler was there to clear away. This has happened every time.

How do they do that?

Camera in your room?

Listening device on the food trolley that delivers your food?

I have no idea. However it has not been just myself who has experienced it. My cousin has had the same thing happen. So has my P.A.

I was in a larger suite so we were served at the dining table in our room. So after we finished our meal we left everything on the table. Within 2 minutes of going to the living room, the butler was at the door to clear the table.

That is just a little bit spooky.
