The wooden posts are what remains of a railway bridge over the creek; the rail went on as far as the township of Coles Bay. I think the main purpose for the rail was coal mined on Schouten Island and general supplies in support of the whaling industry etc.

I've caught some nice bream in that creek!

Ahem. We in the mining industry call that a scenic enhancement.

The quarry was last worked maybe 30-odd years ago, and is still technically covered by mining tenure. A few years ago, the National Park decided to get boulders from it to decorate their newly expanded Wineglass Bay walk car-park, not far away. The Mines Department charged them with illegal mining.

So it comes to an end.Back on the track to the room for the last time. The wattles are out-

Finally a look back to Oyster bay from a lookout just south of the Freycinet and Devil's corner vineyards. It overlooks part of the Devil's Corner grapes.Though as one Tasmanian told me we shouldn't be drinking their wines because they are owned by the dastardly mainlanders!

So it was finally back to Burnie to wait for the working week.
Did we enjoy it.Absolutely.
Service fantastic-even on leaving they put the bags in the car whilst we were checking out and 2 staff members were there to wave goodbye. All through the stay we could not fault the service.Food was very good.Loved the drink options.
Mrsdrron loved the spa and I thought my oyster farm excursion was great.Done with style. The setting and views are magic.
Was it value?Well hardly any change out of $2000 for ou night there. But considering you get your 3 high quality meals,a great drink and snack service thrown in,$100 off spa treatments and an array of complimentary experiences it really isn't as expensive as it seems.

For us we went there thinking that this would be a one off experience in view of the price. When we left we had changed our minds and it is very likely we will return as long as Tassie keeps offereing me work. For us definitely worth it.
I realise however I am in a very fortunate position in life being able to continue work and earn good money so we can live this lifestyle.Obviously a lot cant. However on this week the great majority of guests were under 40 with many under 30.The Good Old days were obviously not that good.

Ooh looks amazing.. Gotta go. It's exxy as you say but when you consider all inclusive... Well it's still pretty exxy really but hey you only live once! I'm thinking of booking there for our next wedding anniversary.

Thanks for the review; great to see that they still impress! Happy birthday to mrs.dr.ron :D .

Anyone planning to visit Saffire is welcome to get in touch and I'll let them in on some local secrets (but I can't swing any discounts, sorry! :( ).

ps Devil's Corner used to be locally owned ... by Gunns, the dreaded pulp mill developer!

What a stunning place. Thanks for posting (despite my jealousy).
