Another great TR MAtt.

I plan to do the Lisbon - Madrid Trenhotel sometime soon as well. In 2013 I did the Paris - Madrid Trenhotel in the 4 sleeper cabin like yours. Loved the experience, although I did find it cramped. I'm a little tall for the bunks and got next to no sleep. Until we made a stop at Burgos, about 3 hours from Madrid, I noticed the group in the next cabin got off, so jumped in there and had a couple of hours nap. I have been told the Paris - Madrid train has either stopped or on a limited schedule now, due to the high speed line going all the way. The final gap at the border was finished about the time I did the Trenhotel.

Think this time, I'll go for a 2 bed cabin, if I can convince a friend to come.

I'm off to Turkey next week, plan on doing a TR. Certainly won't be to your level, but taking tips.

Flying QR J to Istanbul, a few days there. Then to Gallipoli, Troy and Ephesus for a couple of days. Back to Instanbul to catch a Feberbahce football match. Then to Goreme in Cappadocia for a couple of days. Very full 9 days.

Not sure what I'm looking forward to most? QR experience, have heard its quite good. Always wanted to go to Gallipoli and also I'm a history nut. So, Ephesus has a lot of appeal as well. I visited Gallipoli in 2014. Totally worth the trip, and honestly, visiting the sites with a Turkish guide changed my perception of the whole campaign.

We visited the nearby JEATH war museum, which contained some useful information and all sorts of memorabilia. To be honest I found the layout of the museum a bit strange.

The final stop was the "Tiger temple". I'm not too sure how I felt about this place. It was nice to get some photos with tigers, but the whole operation seemed like a bit of a tourist trap. The staff weren't even getting paid - they all seemed to be volunteer backpackers. And I imagine their treatment of the tigers would be questionable.

Have also visited there mattg back in 2008. A full days trip ex-BKK but well worth the effort. I didn't get to the floating markets but did the war graves which were kept immaculately and also the Bridge over the River Kwai and lunch on the River etc. Agree the Tiger Temple is set up for tourist big time but I found it beside being bloody hot that day to be quite odd how the deer and pigs etc run around freely with no fear of the Tigers. Just seems to be against the natural order of things.
