I missed this too, where was this ?

On our website here

Virgin Australia also confirmed today that Economy Class guests travelling on Saver fare types will also receive complimentary tea; coffee and water from 18 January on all domestic flights. Saver fare guests travelling between Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney Monday to Friday will be offered complimentary beer and wine between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.

SERFTY SERFTY! QUICK! Someone's said a statement which is untrue! Oh wait they're having a go at Virgin so It doesn't matter....

Why make comments like this!

Also in the press release

"Saver fare guests travelling between Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney Monday to Friday will be offered complimentary beer and wine between 4:00pm and 7:00pm." Now that is

There's one answer, so posts don't get devalued by proporting incorrectly.

Now may I assume this is a rap over the knuckles for me for being in error??

For what it's worth, I do remember the furore about the OOL JQ lounge being "pay for use" for all (including WP's......never really thought about CL) and further, just recently (within the last few months) I did read the JQ website to see if QFF Gold had access rights and the site said (and I quote) The Gold Coast Lounge costs $9.99 pre-purchased (before travel) from Jetstar.com or through Jetstar Reservations, or $15.00 at the door.
Business Max passengers and children six years and under are admitted free of charge.

No mention of WPs, SGs or CLs there that I can see.

I also thanked nlagalle for correcting me (and others that may have been inadvertently mislead). If by quoting my comment "why would I waste my time reading QF threads", you are insinuating that I'm negligent in my post because I don't spend all my bloody day ready AFF QF threads to find some obscure post notifying everyone that WPs are allowed into the OOL JQ lounge, then I suggest you go back and re-read that passage I wrote which, when not edited out of context, actually said....

I struggle to keep up with the DJ discussion board....and that matters to me. QF abandoned my ports years ago, so why would I waste my time reading QF threads??

That my friend, is my choice to make and I will not be admonished by you for not allocating all my waking hours to reading umpteen dozens of posts that hold no interest to me. As you say, what I wrote was correct at one point, the JQ website still to this day does not mention access to WPs (that I found) and that was what I based my info on..............naughty me.

Now as for this bit of moderator drivel "so posts don't get devalued by proporting incorrectly"...........I hate to tell you, but the capital crime of mis-information had already been dealt with respectfully . That's the way the vast majority of the numerous mis-information posts are dealt with on AFF......someone posts and someone (or others) correct them if necessary. Easy, polite and doesn't need a knuckle rap, but I'll accept that rap with dignity and grace sire and go and do something more exciting with my non-daylight saving afternoon like go to the pub! (I'd make it a QP but they don't allow ATA )

On that note, I am one of the few (many?) that read both the QF threads (well, some) and the VA threads (again, some) and wasn't aware either that WPs get access to the JQ lounge. The JQ website as you've said certainly doesn't indicate this, mind you they have removed the previous text that used to specifically exclude WPs and SGs. They've kept the statement about QP members having to pay though.

Does this mean SGs are allowed in as well, or are they considered QP members as that's what their level effectively gets them (as opposed to J/Flounge access for WPs)?

This thread has been entertaining... though I am suffering from significant whiplash.

I commend Virgin Australia for jumping in where angels fear to tread... but as another member has noted, those who despise VA now probably always will. No amount of fanboi campaigning will sway their tightly held views

.... and no amount of good/favourable reports or logic will sway them either.

That's ok, I'd rather not sit next to someone who's going to whinge the whole way.....

I think you are being a little trite there.

I does matter whatever is posted. The reality is that things are changing with DJ. And don't worry about me; I have more domestic journeys with DJ booked currently than with Qantas. I also have travelled more on DJ flights in recent times than on Qantas.

FWIW, that 'incorrect' post regarding paying for water is still actually correct - it wont come into force for another two months - and its announcement is onlt a week old. QF WP 's have had access to JQ lounges before their flight for some years.

The reality is that I believe I was respectful - there was no intention to 'rap over the knuckles'. If you took offence I apologise.:-| (FWIW, I was posting as a member, not as a moderator.)

You essentially posted "why would you waste your time with QF" - I was pointing out a reason.

I'd also written in the same post:
....
To be fair, initially WP did not get access, but I think this started costing the Qantas group revenue; so they decided to permit their perceived HVC's in. ...
I am no Qantas fanboi - I like to travel and to do so in comfort. My last two domestic journies have been in comfort on DJ.

As far as the WP lounge entry goes, there's a whole thread on it; probably auto-closed by now. Aside from that WP access in noted in the JQ lounge Terms & conditions (1.9).

Of course, your comment about reading QF threads was made in relation to my suggestion about linking to the QF thread on ATA, at least that was my interpretation, rather than WP accessing the DJ lounge at OOL. Now that was only a 1,000 post mega thread, not that obscure. :p

Wow what a thread. Status matched people who don't fly virgin are crowding the lounge as are those abusing ATA. Not sure how people not flying with Virgin are using the lounge. But that's just me. As for the abusing ATA, there is a whole thread over in the qantas section full of those misguided opinions. Instead of type whole posts why not just link to the post in the other thread that expresses your view?

Then there is the food on qantas. I find the slop they serve up on qantas to be a total waste of time.

Yes, I must admit there was a degree of poetic license in my posting!

.......but, logic has it having a least some merit. Take OOL from March next year when the new DJ Lounge opens. QF diehards presumably fly JQ out of OOL, yet the WPs and SGs don't get access to the JQ lounge without forking out extra bucks. Now tell me when the DJ lounge with ATA is available, all the SMed WPs and SGs won't waltz in there instead of paying for the JQ lounge!!

As for the QF thread......come on, how much time do you think I've got to waste on a forum? I struggle to keep up with the DJ discussion board....and that matters to me. QF abandoned my ports years ago, so why would I waste my time reading QF threads??

Really?

Hi VA

Thanks for jumping in, and making corrections.

Are you shocked as in my informant was wrong about the numbers, time frame or both?

I will put my hand up to the trolling post alot earlier about the fish and chip Friday (which I disappointingly got no bites to), but I have no reason (until now) to doubt the information I was receiving. In fact all of it has proven to be correct.

Reggie

Unfortunately I think the "fanbois" do more harm to VA than good. As someone who is in the other camp i certainly (like most others) don't hate VA, rather hate the fanbois who don't fly telling us how good it is and how cough the other is..

Don't worry serfty most of us know you are balanced and equitable. Even if you were a Qantas fan boi at least it would balance out our other mod.... ;)

Another quality VA thread... Ahem.... Thanks for the entertainment guys!

I somewhat disagree, but understand where your coming from. I get the impression that anyone who is pro-VA is deemed to be a VA fan-boi however.

Anyway this is getting OT... another fun thread for those who chose to partake in the festivities

Certainly not. I have friends who fly VA now and they are definitely not fanbois.

No need. I overstepped the mark.

To save doubling up on posts I'll link to this one.

Hmmm. Somewhere after the OP this thread went off-topic.

To be fair BNE airport on Friday 11/11/11 was chaos. I got to the airport ~2:00pm and went to QF business class check-in and waited ~1 minute to be served. The other check-in queues hardly had anyone in them but there were also 3-4 counters serving so throughput was quicker. Taking a look around the check-in kiosks and one could see almost all of them being used with hardly anyone waiting.

Got to security and there was one queue past the check-in kiosks and almost back to the business class check-in counter. This was the priority security queue. The other queue was not much better and it was snaking around and around.

Not sure what the throughput was like but I was not going to hang around to find out. Walked down to the JQ security checkpoint and only 2 people in front of me and got through very quickly.

Returned last night on VA at ~6:50pm and went to the VA Lounge for ~20-25 minutes. It was crowded but not overflowing. Food selection was very limited but ok if you wanted a cheese and tomato sandwich with some salami. Most dishes needed refilling as well. Only 3 desktops in the lounge and they were all used by the same people during the length of my stay.

Not being critical but at the moment trying to compare VA as a QF competitor is not easy. Sure VA are improving but they still have a long way to go.

For what it is worth the BNE Qantas Lounge, not Business Lounge, has had hot food the past 2 Fridays. On Friday it was some sort of macaroni and cheese at ~2:30pm which tasted quite OK and I cannot remember what they had the Friday before but I did take a photo as I was surprised the Qantas Lounge had hot food on offer.
