I am on business in europe in october and the wife and I decided she would meet me there spend two weeks tripping about and then fly home together. Now this was all well and good but I will be travelling J and her Y, MXP-HKG-BNE with Cathay, so as you can imagine certain q's are arising.:confused: has anyone else travelled in similar circumstances and how did you deal with it.

We are meeting in Milan and then plan on Istanbul, paris, greek islands and tuscany to name a few

You could split the trip, you fly on your seat MXP-HKG and then swap BP's with her prior to boarding HKG-BNE.
I've done this a few times with family members. It's probably the fairest way to travel together in different classes.

If you don't let her travel in J the whole way, it will cost you a lot more than the fare in the long run, just saying.

So there was no way you could upgrade her with points etc?

Ahh. My mistake, I didn't read your post properly and thought QF.

Thats cool :)

So I have just booked a return upgradeable ticket for her, I will see how the funds are on the way back and maybe upgrade her to join me, otherwise I will make sure she gets the comfortable seat for the final leg.

As a matter of interest, there wasn't a QF code share available on that flight that would make using points easier?
Assuming I know what I am talking about :-)

You can't upgrade on non QF metal if thats what you were meaning.

See if you can do it on the day as a op upgrade or see if can make cash transaction at the airport might work as well.

I have no points with Cathay unfortunately, otherwise would have done so

If you do a QF partner award with CX in J MXP/HKG is 92,000 plus EUR127.29 or MXP/xHKG/TPE 92,000 point plus EUR156.42. Then purchase a J class one way ticket TPE/xHKG/BNE for TWD38,854.00 or AUD1,283.60.

Alternatively a J class partner award ticket on CX MXP/xHKG/BNE is 139,000 points plus EUR266.49 so all you would need to do is buy a one way ticket BNE to somewhere in Europe.
