I am very new to ASA bookings, so please excuse any obvious errors in logic.
I am planning a one-way trip PER ->SIN in January and this is my research.

*Using the slider to equal the Classic taxes
What are the benefits to booking a Y/JASA redemption over a Classic redemption, if I am not interested in SCs. I usually travel with whichever airline has the most suitable flight times.
I looks to me like I would be better off with the Classic award in this instance.

Agreed. If you arent after the SCs or Points, use up what FF points you have to go with the classic.

IMHO, the slider to the far left gives the better value if, like me, you are relatively points poor (I measure my annual availability on the lower six figures).

I found after my first JASA In booked in U class that one can never have enough points. ;)

So true. I do this too. But the OP is not interested in SCs so all he'll end up doing is paying either more cash or more points for the YASA/JASA. Personally, it would be a no-brainer! JASA all the way.

Whether the op changes her mind after booking and travelling a JASA on not may be irrevant - my posting was if they decide it's for tham and regret those 8k points per PAX.

For mosty, $$$ are easier to come by than points.

In reality if you look at her original post, it's like "please convince me of the merits of a JASA".

With no status a premium class award booking is one way to escape the throngs ... if nothing else.

Can't the same be said for the J Classic?
Yes - but what has one to show after travelling a classic award segment aside from memories?

I did a FASA on QF93 a few months ago - it cost 144K QFF points & ~$120 more at the time of booking than a Classic; but I earned ~24K Qff points and 270 SC's.

Really, unless you are points rich (> 1 million per year earning) it's a no brainer.

A quick note about my decision. I booked 2 J Classic award flights, for the exact day I wanted. Times are also perfect.

Now I just have to wait for the cruise prices to settle down and to try to get a good deal. I know it was a bit premature to book the flight before the cruise, but I thought that the risk of losing 5000 points was worth it to secure J seats.

National Seniors seems to get my friends great cruise prices so see what they have got for your circumstances. If you are under 50 join a family member to gain access.
I don't do cruises as my partner gets sea sick.

We usually use a local TA who doesn’t charge a fee for using my AMEX card and gives QFF points for the cost of the cruise.

I will look at National Seniors to compare the two.

We had a little trouble with seasickness on our first cruise which was on the Costa Allegra. Turns out it is a converted container ship with no stabilisers.

It was a little rough, but with no ill effects, rounding the Cape of Good Hope on the Sun Princess in a Force 9.

Otherwise, no trouble at all.

We especially love the Azamara cruises. Can I say that?
