A330 Old Config J seating

ah makes sense now

So it's 14 days before departure, that we get given the option to select seats? I think this is the first time i've made a booking so far in advance!

Correct. Whilst DJ's fleet is growing and expanding (and shifting and changing etc etc) they're limiting online seat selection to be at T-14 days. Until then, you won't know what a/c you're on. Hopefully the new GDS will assist with this too. I'm waiting myself as I have some flights on the 330 coming up as well in J, and after having flown in both configs, i'm crossing everything to get the new (it really is awesome).

As mentioned in my last post, I (erroneously) compared it to Air NZ's premium econ product, which I did admit was not comparing apples with apples (as it doesn't fly domestically).

Although what you're on at T-14 days won't necessarily be the plane you get on the day! I did seat selection for my flight on Monday PER-SYD on the A330 at T-14 and the seat map was for the new configuration. Checked it again last night just in case any seats further forward had opened up for me to select (as I'm a lowly Silver, travelling in Y :) ) and my allocated seat had changed. Checking the seat map, it's now the old A330 configuration.

Bummer. I wonder how many new A330's and how many old A330's they are flying?

2 of the old, 3 of the new. Your odds of getting a new one are better than old, but it's also possible they prefer the new on the SYD route instead.

VH-XFA(Awesome) - old config, XFB(Broken) - old config, XFC, XFD and XFE - all new config I believe.

*Awesome and Broken were nicknames people gave the first two A330's as XFB seemed to keep going u/s.

Hoping that's not "Awesome" because it's still managing to fly. :(

Grrrr! I must have walked under a ladder. Of two return trips MEL-PER with the new config available, I've had at time of booking, one of each, each time. And in both cases the new has morphed into the old between T-14 and departure. So 4 out of 4 flights = old (plus 2 via SYD when old was all that was available). Still, the pitch and service has been great.

I've stuck with 2D/F based on loadings so far, fingers crossed that 2E, as in past experience, will not be allocated (though as in the past, it is showing as allocated).

On the subject of XFB, I mentioned that reputation to an FA on one of those flights (not sure which I was on, A or B) and she said XFA was actually the troublesome one ("from our point of view"). Who knows, different point of view I guess.

Way to kill a good story ;)

All of the seat maps show the "new" config until a few days before the flight when the aircraft is allocated to that flight, then you will notice on some flights the seat map has changed to now include middle seats.
