A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

XFA to be withdrawn from service in September. XFJ will be delivered as replacement.
XFB to be withdrawn from service in December.

If so then that's great news :)

Now the real question is where are the A330's really going to fly to

I scored one of these on the way back from PER yesterday. Hadn't been on one of these for a while. The only good thing is the generous recline. IFE is not good but at least they provide the wireless streaming IFE. The audio didn't work at all. Will be glad to see these old birds go. The crew were great though. One crew member recognised me from the flight going over to PER!

Might finally be able to book that trip to PER :p

with a 'net loss' of 1 A332 by end of 2014...I wonder what the A332 flights schedule will be in 2015... I don't think there's much slack to continue the current A332 schedules, with 1 less aircraft come 2015. (unless another one is being ordered...but I cant find another A332 order after XFJ)

BNE is probably more likely to lose service than MEL

I certainly won't be shedding a tear when / if they go. I don't like playing the A330 lottery and losing

If you just do a search for flights next year you can see that Brisbane is going down to 1 A330 service a day.

Shame that the red eye to Brisbane and first flight out to Perth will be back on a 737.

From when?? Looks like connections via SYD for me, hell no am I flying a 737 J or Y on a red-eye
Bugger :(

I have been guilty in the past of having a grumble about XFA/B but having just flown Business MEL-PER on a Qantas A330 I have to say apart from the erratic IFE XFA/B win hands down. As for the food - Hot dog as a business class main course??

There are no arguments that the VA 330 J product (all of them) are better than the hard product of the current QF 330's. It should be a bit more competitive once the refit has been completed.
There have also been a couple of comments regarding the hot dogs. Was there any other choice or was that it?

The other choice was Duck Curry which was bland to say the least. Desserts were more like small slices of cake from a packet overall an underwhelming experience started by being greeted "hi mate just down there on the right" as I boarded.

Was this on QF or VA?

It doesn't surprise that the redeye out of PER to BNE will possibly go back to a 737. I did it a month ago .... on XFA ...grrr , and it would have only been 1/3 full .

So not much has changed, was like that when I flew red-eye in March.

Looking at my flights for December, morning flight on Boxing Day is now a 738, yet still has my Window seating preference which I'm sure is the reason why the system is telling me to call the GCC to select seats.
Either now I take the 8pm on Christmas Day or go via. SYD/MEL to connect to a 332 service and leave BNE at 5am Boxing Day

Stupid Aircraft Changes :(

According to SMH Article about the daily BNE-LAX service / discontinuation of MEL-LAX direct flight:

Virgin is expected to unveil an upgrade to the business class of its 777 aircraft later this year. The current seating configuration of 2-3-2, unlike that used by partner Delta, does not provide for direct aisle access. Maybe the next A330 to come will also sport this "expected" new seat?

From what I've heard XFA has about one week left in VA colours. I'm surprised little has been said of it on here considering it means an end to the a330 lottery is near. Anybody else heard similar or something more official?

I wasn't aware of this announcement.

I thought A/B leaving was tied to replacement aircraft arriving (not in the immediate future).

XFA is ferrying to SIN 18th August and XFB roughly a month later after delivery of XFJ. on lease return...
