Can any other enthusiasts tell me when A380s land at Sydney airport- and which is best viewing spot? Or how I can find this out? I have One obsessed 4 year old - and I know there are fewér a380s about (although that is changing)!

Shep's Mound is probably the easiest and most practical. There is dedicated parking, shelter, and bubblers. Fast food outlets are not too far away.

You might like to get Flightradar 24 or a similar app to check on aircraft movements. A380s stand out on the basic (free) level because they are pretty much the only big four-engine aircraft around. You can zoom out to see them heading in across the Pacific or down from Europe across the middle of Australia. Emirates has a few trans-Tasman services that go out and return during convenient hours.

There is constant traffic at SYD and your Bluey should be entertained. Noise levels can get pretty loud for young ears, though. Some ear protection might come in handy.

Most of the A380’s arrive very early in the morning. QF2, QF12 etc and EK412. If he’s an early riser get there just before 0600 and you will see quite a few.

Have a look at Flightradar24 for SYD airport and you can see all the scheduled arrivals and the aircraft type.

Later this morning you have SQ231 scheduled at 1025
The next one after that is QR908 at 1710

Thankyou! Awesome!

If you feel extravagant, get a room at the Rydges Sydney Airport hotel. The wee chap will be in his element..

I have also spent many hours at SYD with my son. Another option is T2, go past security, veer right and go to end of terminal. Good viewing, clean toilets and food. Can also watch ground activity. Lady Robinson beach gets you closer to runway 16R/34L that the A380 use.

And remember that each of the landings noted previously in this thread will have a subsequent take-off. So some of the takeoffs might be better timing. And of course the view will depend on prevailing wind direction. So sometimes landings will be visible and other times it will be takeoffs.

Do China Eastern and Etihad not use the 380 to SYD also?

China Southern used to but not China Eastern:

EY A380s are only just coming out of mothballs. Only doing AUH-LHR at the moment.
A bit off-topic, but Etihad has started codesharing on Asiana's ICN-SYD service.

They are also pushing quite hard for their CGK-SYD codeshare service on Garuda lately.
I assume they are at max capacity out of SYD.

Would be interesting to see if they re-introduce the A380 to SYD.
