I work opposite the Airport in CBR, and today saw two odd aircraft sitting in the VIP hanger area.

1 x United Airlines aircraft
1 x American Airlines aircraft

I'm thinking these aircraft were probably diverted from SYD earlier today, but has anyone got any inside lines on why these aircraft were here? There was nothing on the canberraairport.com.au arrivals or departures boards...

Both aircraft have since left, but I'm inquisitve about why they were here...

They were both LAX-SYD flights, and have since left CBR and landed in SYD, according to FR24. I'm guessing that the weather had something to do with it.

AA73 (N821AN) and UA839 (N27964), both 787-9s, diverted via CBR. Landed CBR at 0908 and 0925. Departed for SYD at 1026 and 1050.

Not sure why, the weather doesn't appear to have been that bad around the time. Their scheduled SYD arrivals are 0900 and 0850.

Presumably because the landing time nominated by ATC was beyond their holding capability. Carriage of insufficient fuel does not move you up in the queue, unless you declare an emergency.
