Traveling through LAX recently transferring QF to AA with wife and children and was denied access to OW lounge (AC Ok) as children (both under 12) were classed as guests rather than dependent travellers. Should we have all been granted access as we would in Sydney F lounge?

Bouquet. AA did a great job of returning the IPad I left on the aircraft to me.

They were following the rules-only 1 guest permitted-
Admirals Club ( R ) Lounge Access

QF have exactly the same official policy-
Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club lounges

However as you are a QF OWE it is not surprising you are allowed more leeway than with AA.It has been stated before that your young children will get access with you in the QF lounges.
Officially you could have had the same rule applied for AC entrance.

Some would say they were doing you a favour in denying access to OW "Lounge".
Much better of with the AC IMHO.

FWIW, (and being outside oneworld agreements) Admirals Club[sup]®[/sup] member's "immediate Family" can enter instead of "guests".

Admirals Club ( R ) Lounge Access
Yes but that is Admiral's club paid members.Even an AA EXP flying domestically in F does not get AC entry unless he pays(discounted) membership.QFF members get it by virtue of their QP membership.I certainly have come across 1 lounge dragon that interprets that clause as AC members only and QP come under the OW rules-every other one though has had no problems treating you as an AC member. Also QP members still get more than AC members with complimentary drinks. And until only recently QP members did not get free wifi as AC members did-so they do make a distinction between QP and AC.
