Bit different this month:

Double offer ends August 15: Up to 25% off, plus 2,000 bonus miles

It's easy to earn and save with these offers. So make the most of it.
1. Get up to a 25% discount off the purchase price, through August 30
2. In addition, earn 2,000 bonus miles when you buy 20,000 or more miles, through August 15

Just got this email as well - this is a good deal: $0.0200/mile (including the 2k bonus) [on 60k miles].
Compares with the 50% mile bonus of last Christmas @ $0.0201/mile [on 60k miles].
Obviously not as good if you want to stockpile miles but right on the money for…err…the money.

Will this fall under the get one deal per year rule? If it doesn't, is it usually better to wait for the end of year offer? I'm just interested in stockpiling at the moment.

Ok, just looked it up and it is the 1 deal pa rule.

As am I, which means I'll probably wait for the Xmas 50% bonus offer.
If you want to stockpile AA miles to be used say in the latter part of next year it may be worth buying USDM miles.

good price, but will be passing on this one.

need 160k for an F return SYD-LHR, and with the 90k picked up from the xmas special taking up this promo would fall short. c'mon AA, be more generous next time ;)

Dont forget SPG have promos on buying Starpoints from time to time which can be transferred across.

Ditto at waiting for a similar deal to the Xmas bonus. Yours truly needs more J/F flights!

Hope that AA also has a good promotion at the end of the year, but wouldn't take it for granted all the time, they have done a few things different this year, they now offer a 70K bonus (if chosen as the bonus) for EXPs who go from 100k to 150k in the qualifying year so don't know if the good fairy will always be there at the end of the year with the buy miles promotions.

If you can afford to wait until the end of the year then I would be stocking up on USDMs, cheaper and to an extent unlimited, and likely to be used to achieve the same result after Nov 1.

What other charges are involved when buying miles ?
60k miles normally is USD1650 so with 25% discount that's USD1237.50.
Is there a 7.5% tax payable on top of that ?
Plus an additional fee of $50(?) ?

Cheers

$35USD processing fee

We are each at 91,000 but have to wait for the 12 months rule to longer stop the next purchase.

If you're desperate for more miles you can still "share miles"i.e someone else buys miles for transfer to you. However it will cost you more!
