Am looking to do a challenge soon and wanting to confirm that Qatar flights are eligible for it before I commit, for flights on BA/QF do you get actual miles or 500 on flights that are sub 500 miles?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

QR flights are not eligible for the AAdvantage challenges as per the main thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-platinum-challenge-mileage-earning-8595.html

Until the challenge is achieved or the challenger garners Gold status there is no minimum earn.

MEL-SYD on QF on O class could earn as little as 110 RDM and 55 EQP.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Cheers for the confirmation, I didn't think they did but wanted to make sure and got myself confused looking at multiple threads, couldn't find this thread and then was linked to it by someone.

I am also guessing that with Eithad being only a code share unless its on an AA code they wouldn't apply either which is gutting as have some QR and Eithad long hauls coming up.

Finally getting around to ditching the Q..........couple of quick questions:

- I can book the trip prior to signing up for the challenge and that will be fine right? Will register for the challenge prior to flying end august
- Is my calc here correct - if booked thru AA.com and all AA flight numbers (even though QF metal)? PER-SYD-LAX return is 19,057 miles so worst case that is 9,528 EQP so only 500ish required for Plat?
- Does AA Plat allow domestic qantas club lounge access if flying QF domestic?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Yes to all three.

What's the cost of the AA codeshares when compared with the QF flight numbers?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

awesome thanks..........now the question is why didnt i do this 5 years ago..........

re price - am doing multi city with a few internal us - so could not even do it on the qf site...think just an lax return was about the same......

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

To challenge or not to challenge?

I have some free time during my travels to potentially complete the challenge (hopefully with a round the world ticket) to get to Platinum. I'm currently on QF silver and am thinking it'll be more beneficial to be AA platinum than QF Gold. Is the challenge worthwhile (simply flying for the sake of flying) with the pending devaluation of AA Points? I'm mostly looking forward to lounge access and increased points earning, but will probably never have as much time off as I do now in the USA.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Kerry

Where would you be based?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

The goal is to get to Europe eventually, but I can be based in the USA too.

One thing I will note here. A few years ago when I did my first challenge, the qualifying sector received the bonus. That no longer seems to be the case. My qualifying run was JNB-LHR-DXB. My 100% applied to flights after it. Not the qualifying LHR-DXB like last time.

Also they are very slack/slow/forgetful applying non AA sectors to your account. My qualifying run (before several emails to fix) was actually JNB-LHR//FCO-ORD due to the order in which flights showed up on my account (or didn't show at all until chased a month later)

Just something to watch out for if you have multiple OW carriers over a few days as I did.

V8 I would query that. They gave me gold upon registration hence I got +25% for flights before the 10000 threshold and 100% for the qualification flight that took me over 10000. This was in March.

Also just to note I rang them the day after I took the qualifying flight and they processed it manually as I was flying again that night and wanted the lounge access.

That is correct - it has been so since around April this year.

Will be interesting to see what comes of it then, based on post above, I fired of a polite query regarding earning on the qualifying flight taken in April.

Serfty you are the bearer of bad news.

I woke up this morning to an email reply from AA. They manually added the bonus for my qualifying flight.

Hey guys considering doing the plat challenge during my trip to the US this December. I'm probably gonna do EWR-DFW-SJCs (O) x4 and that should net me 10000~ EQP. So I assume that during my last run it should put me on to plat correct and gain 100% bonus correct? Am I correct to assume that gold is no longer given during the initial registration?

Any cheaper options within Australia that I could get 10000 EQP's under 1.5k?

Not that I know - best I have come across ex Oz is PE on QF to HKG for around $1750 ... that'll do for the challenge ...

Indications here seem to be you don't earn the bonus on the qualifying flight. However I emailed and asked and received it with no issue.

I was already AA Gold when I did the plat challenge, so I'm not sure. It was available to me several years ago.

Have you considered doing the challenge on a few sectors of a xONEx fare?
