Hi all,
not sure if this is in the right thread.
i've managed to snag some SYD-DFW ASA's, however my final destination is AUS (Austin, TX - a 30 min flight). Hence i'll need to book connecting flights with AA.
I'd like some advice on which flights to book for these connectors. While i understand if i was on one ticket SYD-AUS i wouldn't have to worry about SYD-DFW (or vv) running late as they would put me on the next available this won't be the case if i'm on separate PNRs.
If i book a "standard" will i have to purchase another flight if there are delays? Would the "standard plus" offer me any better protection from delays? The instant upgrade/ business fares are $440 each way which seems a little OTT for the flexibility/ such a short flight.
e.g QF sells a ticket landing at DFW at 145, departing for ATX at 315. How much of a risk is it taking to book the same flight? (how long is a piece of string i know). Would it be better to book a "standard plus" on a later flight and get put on the standby list in the hope of an earlier slot?
my biggest fear is the return leg, i.e. if the AUS-DFW gets delayed/ cancelled i'll miss the DFW-SYD flight. any experiences/ general suggestions?
also - am i right in assuming both ends will check my bags the entire journey since they are both OW carriers?
cheers
