AA has just put out an embargoed press release regarding new routes and developments in this part of the world. They are doing something with New Zealand.

I believe the announcement is that the NZ service will go to year round rather than just Southern Hemisphere summer.

However there is this cheeky release.

PS note that bundy bear knows more than me.

I've heard the possibility of somewhere to MEL. Don't think my sources are that accurate though.

It was discussed when the QF deal was successful that AA would also ramp up its NZ presence again with QF codes feeding it. Keeps the monopolistic and woeful NZ a (little) bit more honest...

There has been suggestion that AA will take over the evening MEL-LAX, allowing QF to move the 787 service to SFO every day, instead of splitting it between SFO and LAX.

I suspect QF are making a killing on Mel-Sfo judging by the prices they have been managing to extract in the premium cabins - it’s one of my regular routes and moving to daily would be great.... connect the tech capital of the US to the tech capital of AU completely!

Also i've heard maybe a 777. Would that make sense out of MEL?

I’m looking at a spreadsheet right now which has the AA release listed. Working title: American Airlines New Zealand Expansion. I don’t have access to the release time, or at least not without sticking my nose into things I shouldn’t. Maybe Monday a.m. US time.

DFW-AKL and LAX-CHC from October 2020

To operate seasonally from 10/25/20-3/25/21.
DFW-AKL will be daily on a 789,
LAX-CHC 3 days/week on a 788.
Also, LAX-AKL will be starting 3 weeks earlier next fall on 10/7/20.

Crazy times. All in addition to LAX-AKL.

I just want them to release some award space already :) The sAAver kind.

CHC is brave of them...! But I guess opens up the South Island.

Bad luck NZ.

Hopefully QF codeshares.

Codeshares with AA are not a big issue now they’ve re-aligned the SC / points earn post JV. Earn rates are pretty much identical.

Anyway I’m sure they will, they’re code sharing on AKL-LAX.

I wonder if there’s any chance AA could continue on to Australia - perhaps DFW-AKL-BNE and LAX-CHC-MEL. I’m guessing they don’t want to rock the boat after the QF/NZ deal (although that doesn’t include trans Tasman). Also with QF codeshare connections I guess they don’t need to.
