AA pricing - feeling ripped off

I agree you need to play the system but it does not mean I won't call shenanigans if the same service is charged at different prices (after allowing for exchange rates) in different counties. If your costs are the same charging different amounts in different countries is profiteering.

Far more than just exchange rates need to be taken into account, just ask any transfer pricing expert. Very few companies if any can maintain a constant price worldwide, and after all trade is about getting the best price possible.

Serfty, while I respect your comments, I have to disagree.

I am sure you agree it is wrong, we should pay like for like, with the exception of currency and taxes.

I don't believe you can hold back the tide!! Markets are markets. Just work your way around the problem.

Tickets booked directly with AA

When I go to AA (US and AUS sites) "my trips" and enter the relevant details ... it can't retrieve my booking.

Saying that the hyperlink in the email to my trips works, and when i click on it, it says I have to contact AA to make changes.

Is this normal?

Will my AA booking appear in my QF booking window?

Do you have Qantas flight numbers any where in the booking? (QF on AA Metal (QF*AA) and/or AA flight numbers on QF Metal (AA*QF) and or QF on QF metal?)

AA uses a different booking system (SABRE) for USA portal bookings than QF (Amadeus) and if there is no QF numbers or flights in the booking (or of a carrier that uses Amadeus) then you won;t see the bookings on Qantas.com.

Having posted that, AA do use Amadeus for booking via their Oz portal.

In any case, one or more booking references (PNR's) would have been generated.

I presume you used AA.com to book?

No, it won't appear in the QF window - they use different booking systems. Amadeus for QF and Sabre for AA.

I have a booking made through the US site and while it doesn't show on the AA Australian site, it does show on the site where I booked it.

BTW I have called the Australian number to make a booking alteration and they have done it with no problems. (I assume the call is redirected to the US).

QF SG will get you into the Admirals Club in T4 at LAX. No AA lounge at LAS however.

The AMEX lounge is supposed to be pretty decent at LAS but I'm not sure about the entry requirements.

Just got done by AA as well. Went on the US site found the flight and the price. Went to payment and I think it asked me if I wanted to pay in $A and silly me said yes so it looks like it flipped to the Australian site and I paid 100% more for the flight. Sent emails with no luck just rubbish came back and then hours on the phone with no one having an answer and a care factor zero. Did not seem to care that I was OW Emerald.

I was in a hurry and doing a range of bookings. Didn't click until I got my Amex statement.
