AA Retires Last MD80.

An old friend was an AA pilot for many years (retired now). His main comment about the MD-80 was that it was a "rocketship" and you had to pay close attention to getting it slowed down! He doesn't have that problem with his own aircraft...lol...a Piper Super Cub with Alaskan tyres.... :)

MD-80 was that it was a "rocketship"
I remember flying in an MD80 from DFW to MCO. We descended through a thunderstorm for about 25 minutes with lots of turbulence. Finally we broke through the low cloud and prepared for landing - I watched as the white stripes of the runway appeared below us and we had almost touched down when the pilot received a wind-shear warning and performed a go-around. Wow! Pushed back into our seats as the plane roared back up into the clouds. What a fantastic burst of acceleration and speed! I've never experienced anything like that acceleration in any other aircraft. Yep, rocketship was an apt description - I called MD80s "pocket rockets" from then on due to their diminutive size (especially when you'd just deplaned from an A380.

Yes, I noticed that article on LoyaltyLobby yesterday. Here's an article from the Dallas News:

There's also a few bloggers who have posted clips of the flight to the web.

Edit: It's been a long time coming

Delta still has plenty of 80/90 in their fleet

I am not sad to see them go. I had a seat right near a rear engine and had a week where I had hearing issues. I would always go Delta to Salt Lake after going on an Amercan Eagle flight on a cough plane that was worse than the MD80 and we were really hit up with turbulence.
