The article from the LA Times reads a bit like a PR plant but it does have some information. American Airlines makes a move to dominate at LAX - LA Times

T3 is a terrible terminal so this can only be an improvement.

The article is a bit terse - US moved from T1 to T3 earlier this year and even they only had about 20 flights departing per day.

But the aircraft also has a ventilated compartment in the first-class section for pets ......

Before the move, US Airways passengers making a connection to an American flight had to leave Terminal 3, walk outside of the building or take a shuttle bus to Terminal 4, only to go through the airport security checkpoint again to jump on an American Airlines flight.

Only if they wanted the walk or didn't realise there is an airside shuttle bus between T3 and T4, leaving near Gate 39 in T3.
