Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

AA are now selling tickets for AA72/73 SYD-LAX. The first thing I noticed on their website was the massive price disparity between their own flight and the QF metal flights! Hopefully that's just a bug.

I most certainly wouldn't want to arrive into LAX 15mins after the scheduled arrival time of an A380...

Except the AA flight will not be arriving at TBIT.

I have seen reference recently that these days, even if AA flight do arrive at T4, Immigration/customs is still done at TBIT.

Picking a date though that the QF service is probably already well booked in advance at peak time of Christmas. Any newly launched service is naturally going to be emptier at Xmas (and therefore fares cheaper) given that the existing service has already been selling seats for almost 7 months. A more relevant comparison would be for departures around the latest possible date of booking.

Having friends who wish to depart for the states between Christmas and New Years, on checking I not found any bargain prices (PER)SYD-LAX similar to the price listed in the previous post. Plus the connections from PER seem to be equally scarce - perhaps because the only "reasonable" connecting flight is the overnight red-eye which arrives at 0615 (for the 1200 connection)

Happy wandering

Quite right... I only looked at the first few weeks of operation when I did a quick check last night. Prices do normalise in other periods. There is still a significant difference in price between the AA and QF flights on certain days, though AA is not always cheaper.
