Being based in SIN I may have a different perspective, if I can get a 20-23 hr "stopover" in HKG in one direction (if not both), I consider it not as giving up 7:25 hrs of my life, just as combining a trip to BKK with a trip to HKG ... travel time isn't that much difference between the two.... (so instead of doing SIN-BKK retn and SIN-HKG retn at difft time, its a matter of of doing a SIN-HKG return and HKG-BKK return .. all at once) Given HKG-BKK-HKG is only 45 mins longer than SIN-BKK-SIN, its only wasting 45 minutes :D

Plus you get to watch a movie, have some decent food and drink, get to visit the Wing ... .so all is not completely wasted.

Ummmm, 1,000,000% agree :) except in my rush I only have 16 hours in HKG

Looks like they are back - you are indeed correct - certainly weren't there when I booked a week ago... still, i'm not sure I want to give up 7:25 of my life for some status credits so will stick to the direct flight. Perhaps I'm not as committed as you guys :p
The SIN-HKG-BKK routing suits me perfectly in more ways than one. It means I do not have to waste additional days on status runs and getting into BKK 7:25 hours later also means my liver will be a lot healthier.

You can actually extend in Hong Kong. I did this run earlier this month and was able to change all my flights to allow additional time in Hong Kong. Once you have booked your run just contact Cathay and they will change the leg you want at no cost. Nothing in the terms and conditions prevents this.

Except the availability of the flights / fare buckets.

I know some availability has appeared back up, but it is still overwhelmingly limited, and certainly nowhere near as open as it was this time last month.

Exactly what I have observed researching flights for June, October and December.

Unfortunately this is what happens when these type of deals are advertised openly in frequent flyer forums....

I was wondering about that ... Why can't you book a fare, (say all in "I" class) then immediately change the dates to sometime in the future (up to 12 months ?) so long as that "I" class is available on that sector? Just having a quick look on ExpertFlyer in December 2009 and there seems to be all classes available C9 D9 I9.

Cheers

When I changed my booking I don't think I was re-booked in "I" class as I got the last seat in J for the flight which I thought would not have been "I" but could be wrong. Even when I was changing the ticket at the airport no fare class issues were mentioned at all, just seat availability.

Can anyone find more dates with availability on both sectors?

As far as I am aware these airfares are specifically valid for 6 months only.

I don't think you would be able to book airfares with a departure date of today and then change the departure date to 11 months time as these airfares are not available in 11 months time. Also you would not be able to change the return date to greater than 6 months from departure date.

Have a look on the CX website and see how the airfare jumps to a "J" class when requesting a return date of 6 months + 1 day from departure date.

... and, just like that - it's over.

Prices have gone back up to SGD 1,984.

Will have to make do with the single one I managed to snare - hope others had better luck. :)

From memory the fare rules had an expiry of 31st March, there are still some nice alternates available.

And let's discuss the alternatives to death so they can dry up as well.

You can go first, or perhaps we just let others actually read some threads, there is nothing new that has not already been discussed to the benefit of others here .

Yes exactly this sale was only on until 31 March, the fares haven't dried up (any more than they had this time yesterday) the sale has simply finished. Likewise some other good CX deals from other destinations doubled in price overnight as well.

I am having a bad day. Luckily though after reading what djfuzz posted I did search for the airfares I wanted and they are still available for the price I am willing to pay so I will need to book these ASAP just in case this party is coming to an end.

What your looking at (and of course I am guessing here) is not a business saver but a business standard fare, its unlikely to change too much!

Damn that's bad news - I need 270 points by the end of April for Platinum - finally got my work plans for April locked down and was going to use some spare days to do QF PER - SIN Y and then SIN - BKK - HKG return on CX in J then back to PER on QF again. If anyone has some other ideas on cheap ways to get some SC's please feel free to PM me!

Having just done SIN-BKK-SIN on CX J under one of these deals, I certainly wouldn't pay the $2k+ for that old J cabin on the 777... worse than QF domestic J. On the plus side, the cabins were barely half full each direction - hence the sale - so I had 2 seats both ways, and CX cabin crew are some of the most pleasant in the world IMHO. This seems to be more of a re-position of aircraft than a revenue winner for them. I would imagine sales will come back, as the forward loads must be pretty dismal.
