It also did not seem to be open to non-US residents. And Australia did not come up from a long list of country options.

I worked out the problem. It was a location issue in the sense that accessing the offer from Australia (and possibly anywhere outside of the US) prevented the offer from displaying.

However, I downloaded a very quick and easy VPN (privatetunnel.com) and was able to replicate the offer. There was another hurdle, though. You needed to select the billing country for your credit card and Australia was not in the list of countries (nor were countries like New Zealand and Singapore). I have a US-issued credit card but the billing address is Australia so I was all set to phone up and change it to my friend's address in Switzerland to get around it - and then the caveat offer was updated with the caveat that only one bonus was payable per AA account. I am super bumbed.

I think that part of the requirement was only in play for the delivery part of the offer. That is, the magazine could only be delivered to US addresses. I recalled a similar offer through AAdvantage a couple of years back (probably in this thread) for a magazine and the suggestion was to send the copies to veterans' hospitals. So I pulled up a list on the internet and was going to send them there. I had also changed my AAdvantage address to a California suburb.

It was going to be a bit of work but if I could have got a one way Perth-Sydney J flight for USD14 (17.5k AA miles) plus a few dollars in taxes, I would have been more than happy to do the work. My plan was to buy 25 copies.
