Abbreviations and explanations

What about LTG? Strictly these are INITIALISMS but often refered to as acronyms.
Actually it's an abbreviation. An acronym is formed from the initial letters of other words and is pronounced as a word; e.g. Qantas, NAS

Yes, I think WP is aptly named. ;)
Why be coy, give it its full moniker and bare all. After all, thats what is intended.

We real WPs don‘t mind now that WP1 take the prize.
What prize, did I miss something ;):p I have never been into status chasing it it just happened and I new enough to keep me at levels that worked for my travels. WP1 was good good in the early years and the guest WP has enabled us as a family unit of 3 to access the OW F lounges. VA WP and *A gold (SQ) has given us alternate options for domestic and international travel. I am on the downhill slide and at the moment not really concerned as I am enjoying not having to travel as directed/ required.

Is that the “Some people are born great others have greatness thrust upon them!“ defence? 🤣

Edit: yes, this thread is going OT….

Ha! Very much an in-house thing. I wonder who created that joyful acronym? I wonder how may more we can find, or create in the same vein? I note there is no WS or WG. Can we use those too?

In 2004, group of elite QF FF program members used the (then available) Platinum "anytime access" to retain use of a (then complimentary) Qantas meeting room in the Brisbane Qantas Club for a social event. They sampled liquid refreshments (possibly HPs) in a QP (Qantas Pub, err, Club) and decided that each status level within the program required a little embellishment. Hence:

Platinum status = W@nker Platinum (WP)
Gold status = Scum Gold (SG)
Silver status = Plebian Silver (PS)
Bronze status = Nothing Bronze (NB)

And Qantas Club became Qantas Pub (QP)

That was not my intent, I just had to travel for work, live in one state and work in another creates a fair bit of travel.

Remember it well. A few of us old timers were there at the birth of the naming. And someone even changed their userID as a result ;).

Now that @Mattg has flagged this thread, perhaps there should be a quiz to see who’s match fit for 2023? 😁

I'm reminded of the bit in Good Morning Vietnam where Robin Williams says a semtence mostly of acronyms and abbreviations.
