Would appreciate some advice on the following from those who've sat in the emergency exit row seats at rows 13 and 14 on the B738 before:

  • If fitted with personal IFE are the screens mounted on the seatback in front of you or do they flip out from the armrests?
  • Similarly how are the tray tables stowed?
  • Can you stow carry-on baggage under the seat in front of you in either row?
  • Is recline affected in either row?
  • Are the windows in alignment in either row?

Thanks!

If I recall correctly (happy to be corrected):

- Seatback IFE
- Seatback tray tables
- No carry-on bags allowed under the seat
- I think rows 12 (non-exit) and 13 might have limited recline to allow for movement behind the seat
- Yes, the window is in the middle of the exit door (you'd need to look outside for fire before opening the emergency exit)

Hope that helps.

All correct, although 12 and 13 recline normally but are locked upright from takeoff to seatbelt light off (FAs come and unlock), then lock again for landing.

The bag aspect is heavily enforced. I find the window seat cushion a bit flat (although not as bad as on the 737-400s).

I have photos that prove otherwise - not that Qantas gave a fig when shown them.

I sit in row 13 or 14 regularly. Bags must go in the overhead lockers for takeoff and landing (during the flight they don't have to stay there), and in my experience this is always enforced.

Row 13 is probably my second choice after row 4. The legroom is pretty good.

Yes, I'm aware that they only need to be stowed during takeoff and landing. The photos I have were taken during landing; a large backpack clearly sticking partway out and providing a definite impediment should evacuation be necessary.

Having said that, there were service/crew issues for that entire flight (entire rows of pax missed for the meal etc) so the crew were definitely not performing up to standard in any regard that day.

Thank you everyone for your assistance. :)

Is there a particular reason you prefer row 13 to 14?

The only reason is that the wing doesn't block the view out the window as much from row 13. But that's a minor thing - I'm happy to take row 14 if 13 is not available.

I used to always choose row 13 but switched to 14 because of the recline lock issue.
The FAs are not always prompt to unlock after take off and I don't like to ask in case the PAX behind me decides to kill me.
On the other hand I feel less guilt reclining in row 13 because I know the row behind me has extra legroom anyway.

+1 for row 14. I take 14C when i can due to the lock issue. Although I don't recline on flights so i don't know why i still select it.

I always take 14F. From memory row 13 doesn't line up as well with the window, you have to lean forward to look out.
