Cheapest way to get to Canada (and North America for that matter) is to redeem Qantas/Virgin points on partners like United, American, Qantas, etc. Back in 2023 I flew Sydney to Toronto with a 2 week stopover in Zurich for 115,000 Aeroplan points in business class one-way. Those points were bought cheaply during one of Air Canada's points sales. Be warned, however, it is difficult to find Air Canada award availability be it on Virgin or other programs. So if you are flexible flying via the US you could potentially get there in style for considerably less!
