My flight from Sydney to Honolulu with Qantas has been cancelled and I’ve been rebooked on the flight one day earlier. This is very inconvenient as it would require changing my travel plans (domestic) prior to the Hawaii trip, updating travel insurance, etc.

In order to fly on the same day as originally scheduled the options under ‘manage my booking’ require a connecting flight to Melbourne before a Jetstar flight to Hawaii. For a single flight it’s not that I mind the Jetstar plane (I’ve taken it before and it’s been OK) but I don’t want to risk losing all the extras that I’ve paid for by booking a qantas rather than Jetstar flight (points, luggage, seat selection, included meals and entertainment, etc).

Has anyone had any experience in this regard? I’m trying to limit calls to the qantas contact centre (and all the problems that includes these days). I want to be sure I know what I need to be asking for in terms of confirmation etc. if I agree to the Jetstar flight to allow no change of travel dates.

If it is JQ1 MEL-HNL it does have a QF codeshare -QF5575. Surely QF should ticket you on that so all things such as points OK.
Sorry that would be in an ideal world and this is QF we are talking about. Ringing QF would be the only way you could get the QF codeshare but then you risk losing the whole booking on QFs recent form.

You could ask QF to rebook you on SYD-LAX-HNL if you'd rather avoid JQ.
Thanks for the suggestion but this is an economy class ticket, definitely looking for the shortest route to Honolulu!

Actually the QF codeshare option is showing up for me to select. I’ve just heard stories of people still losing all their qantas benefits when the flight is operated by Jetstar so I’m hoping to get that confirmed/corrected by a member here as the chat on this topic I found was pre-covid and we all know anything or everything might have changed.

This may help although it does not have a reference to QF5575.

Yeah, it's weird that it has "Australia Domestic (QF 5000-5999)" when QF5575 is not an Australian Domestic flight.

I have done this recently and the only benefit you get on Jetstar flights booked as QF codeshare is checked baggage. You have to pay extra for seat assignments and meals even though this is included in an equivalent Qantas flight. There doesn't seem to be any resolution - if you call Jetstar they just say it's booked through a "travel agent" and to contact Qantas. I didn't bother trying to contact Qantas to get a totally wrong answer from their terrible outsourced call centre, so I just sucked it up and waited until check in to pick my seat and brought my own food.

Personally I’d just fly the day before. If you must travel on that date, I’d check the cost of booking a new JQ ticket with the inclusions you require and compare against what you paid for QF - if cheaper, then just ask QF for a refund and book direct. No point paying QF prices to sit on JQ.

I’ve flown JQ a few times, it’s not great but when it‘s cheap you can justify it.

Jetstar Asia makes JQ look luxurious! I flew a short SIN to PEN route in 2019 and never again will i ever do that. 90 minutes of pain due to the very small seat pitch.

That’s what I’m worried about. The qantas fare should mean I get those included since I’ve already paid the more expensive fare - but relying on the call centre right now???? Might be worth paying the extra to change my domestic travel and managing the stress of flying the day earlier.

I have done this route also and thought it was identical pitch to JQ's A320? It's a cheap way into the SIN F lounge so there's a silver lining.

I know this is AFF and the general objective is to fly premium or avoid LCCs at any cost but I would just choose the Jetstar flight. The cost of food and entertainment on Jetstar is a lot less than the cost of a night at a Honolulu hotel.

I'm not averse to flying JQ .... but I am to being ripped off. Why pay for a full-service airline and fly LCC?

I would not accept a down grade. I would change my insurance and fly the day before. Does this Jetstar flight have a business class? I flew to Tokyo on Jetstar business class and it was slightly better than Qantas Economy.
