Accidentally overstaying a French visa if flights are delayed or cancelled

Thanks again everyone for your replies when I enquired about this for our Son in late July. Here is an update. As I mentioned previously he had his SQ flight moved from a 31 August departure from CDG to 29 August when his SIN-SYD flight on 01 Sep had been cancelled. Even though SQ had said last week that he would not be able to check in online I suggested to him that he try it and he was able to check in online 48 hours before departure. Yesterday morning he got to the airport at CDG early to line up before check in opened and said he had to wait an hour while 5 people in front of him had problems and then his turn took less than 2 minutes. I asked him to let us know when he was actually on the plane and when he was messaging me after boarding he said there were probably only 15 passengers on the CDG-SIN flight.

I had looked up lounge access with the Amex Platinum Charge card and he could have gone to the Plaza Premium Lounge which has showers available but when he arrived at SIN he said they were in an area for transiting passengers and were given a bottle of water.

I've had a message from him tonight after he landed in SYD but haven't heard more yet so he's probably on the way to the quarantine hotel now.

We are so relieved that he was able to get on the flights without any problems after hearing so many news reports of passengers having flights cancelled or denied boarding, even at the gate, when trying to return to Australia from Europe. Most of the reports I've read and heard have involved Qatar, with them trying to get people to pay for Business class if they want to get on the flights. I'm pleased that SQ let him fly without any problems. Maybe the fact that his CDG-SYD return leg had been booked since the date he needed opened up nearly a year ago helped.
